Hi has anyone had any dealings with claiming back from Tesco credit card PPI? I can't remeber when I opened the account must be over 6 years ago. I called them about 2 years ago and asked them to cancel it and they were sending me forms to complete which never arrived and due to moving at the time I completely forgot to chase. Rang a few months ago and explained this and the woman said she would cancel it there and then but I said not to because wasn't sure I could still claim if I cancelled this.
    Can anyone advise please.
    Many thanks xx

    Hi Clucky26

Yes there have been many who have had dealings with these, also check the success thread to give you more of an idea on these.

If you feel the need to reclaim on this for some mis sold reason, go for it, check here for more info and template letters to help you through this:
    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/ppi-loan-insurance

If you decide to go for it, they have 8 weeks to respond in full.

If they fob you off in the first response, write back if they have given you the opportunity to do this, the final response should give you the details of how you can take this matter further, generally to the Financial ombudsman service (FOS).

I note you said it must have been over 6 years ago, do you still have the agreement for this?

If not you can try by asking if they can provide you with a copy of this, they do normally charge £1 in cheque or postal order payment, some give for free, but not always.
They have 12 days to supply this to you.
However, if over 6 years ago, it may be more difficult for them to provide this but try anyway.

You do not need this to reclaim though, if you know you had this policy that should be fine, good luck.;)X

Me again guys :D hope you are all looking forward to Britain's Got Talent and not eyeing up your kids easter eggs for tomorrow tut tut ;)

Had 4 letters today from FOS, 3 saying looking into claims will contact within 2 months with response, very busy etc etc

But for OH MBNA ppi mis-selling on cc, the letter states

    Thank you for recent query.

From the information you have provided, it would appear that we cannot deal with your complaint because the business was not covered by the Financial Ombudsman Service at the time you took the policy out.

Please find enclosed a leaflet that explains our service. Should you have any questions or feel that I may have overlooked something, please contact me again. I am returning your documents to you.

I had contacted MBNA and asked for SAR and CCA (still need to come up with that one, they can't find it in their filing system ) Using the SAR statements the ppi amounts to around £1800 without interest so not something we can afford to just 'leave' if you know what I mean.

MBNA's Gail Powell sent a final response along with a copy of OH application form from 2001 after my very first letter which was just a basic template adapted to OH circumstances from this site.

On closer inspection the tick in the ppi box is different to all the rest on the form ie OH filled form in with a ball point pen, the ppi tick looks thicker and darker like a biro. MBNA strongly stated that being self employed was ok but there was certain critieria that had to be met to have a successful claim therefore ppi wasn't mis-sold etc.

I wrote back pointing out the different tick and the fact OH was not told of the certain criteria that had to be met for self employed to be eligible. ( I have since found out MBNA will pay out ppi if you die or go bankrupt for the self employed )

MBNA have NEVER responded, not even when asked for an original colour copy of the application form to verify the different colour ticks.

So what should be the next step now?

MBNA told us to pass on to the FOS in their final response letter, now the FOS are saying they didn't cover them. It means alot to us this money and we really don't want to give up especially when we feel MBNA have not even acknowledged or responded to our claims re the different ticks means in our view there is more to this and feel we have been fobbed off.

Should I write back to MBNA again?

thanks for your help as always xxx

    Hi Toffee Penny

Oh yes easter egg day tomorrow........:EasterBunthis will be me here, so tempted lol.......:D.

I am so sorry to hear this news.

So the FOS have not given you more details on how you can take this further, meanings they are unable to deal with this??
I am aware some try with the FLA, the financial leasing association, but not everyone are successful with these, but you can always try, its another direction, but if they are listed with the FLA, maybe they would help, normally I would not bother with them, even though some say they have been lucky through them, some haven't.
    http://www.fla.org.uk/fla/

Hope someone comes up with more ideas.

Also bear in mind the FOS have made mistakes at times, where it is found the finance companies were covered by GISC prior to the FSA, not sure in regards of MBNA from when you taken yours out though.

If you find out they were covered by these, then let the FOS know.;)XX

    Amersall / Di,

Thanks for your advice it all sounds good. What do I do first? Do I cancel the PPI? Pay off the loan? Do I just refuse whatever figure they try to give me? Do I inform them that I intend to reclaim the full amount etc when I cancel?
I am more than happy of how to reclaim but what order do I do things in?

Amersall - you said you have also had fp issues, did you get your money back? What stage are you at?

have a look on firstpluscomplaints.com they also have good information on how to claim they tell you not to put your reasons for mis-selling just to state that the ppi is not fit fot purpose it is up to fp to prove otherwise. just started my claim i hate this company
  • Thanks Di  (as always xxx)

Disappointed but will keep researching to see what I come up with, I have read a thread on here today re FLA and it doesn't look good but there must be someone out there who can help with this?

I will check out companies offering ppi reclaiming services but I notice many are charging upfront or want up to 29% of your claim which could be about £700 in our case.

If anyone else could offer advice I'd be really grateful. ;)

I received a letter from Alliance and Leicester a couple of weeks ago stating I may of been missold PPI, which I actually was! When I took the loan out I was told if I didn't take out PPI it may affect my chances of being approved for the loan.

I called Alliance and Leicester and received another letter saying they can not confirm I was missold this but offered me the full amount of PPI I paid plus interest that covered the loan plus interest on top! So I will be getting £298 back that will be getting paid off my credit card bills!!!
