    Im not really mad...
  • Hi -
This is my first post so apologies if I rant a little.

I have an MBNA credit card that I have had for many years. I think it was originally smile, then ryanair and now mbna. I called MBNA back in March and tried to cancel the payment protection and stupidly ended up being sold 'lifestyle protect' by the person on the other end of the line who convinced me that I should take it out due to the birth of our first child being imminent as I was eligible for a 'baby' bonus. he ensured me I could cancel the protection if I spoke with my wife and decided it wasn't for us. Of course I never made the claim as I was too busy with a new baby to get around to it. I called them today to enquire about how long the policy has been in place and they told it had been in place since 2004 and it was upgraded by me in March this year (when I tried to cancel it). I do not recall originally taking the protection cover so I am really not sure if I have a right to a claim but I guess it all amounts to about £2500 over six years. I do feel I was hoodwinked into sticking with the policy even though I did agree to upgrade. Should I bother?

Any help, encouragement, opinion greatly appreciated!

    Thanks

    Hi and welcome

If you believe you were mis sold the policy then give it a go.

There are many reasons for mis selling, you could also check the mis selling checklist as well here:
    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/ppi-loan-insurance#checklist

To make a reclaim, all you do is complete the questionnaire that was issued by the FOS, send to whoever was responsible for selling and setting up the policy.
Keep a copy for yourself as well, just in case you need to refer to it at some point.

They have 8 weeks in full to give a decision, but may ask for more time, due to backlogs, also post your reclaim by recorded delivery this is your proof of posting.

The questionnaire you will find here as stage one:
    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/ppi-loan-insurance#reclaim

    Hope this helps, good luck.:)

  • I sent off my first questionnaire to a company regarding reclaiming PPI last week and was wondering if there is a time limit on how long they have to get back to you?

I also wrote to another company that I had a loan with requesting a copy the documentation relating to the PPI I had with them. They have written back to me saying that they can't send me any details as their storage facility suffered a fire in April 2008 and all documents were destroyed. In my experience most companies back everything up on computers nowadays so do you think they are just trying to put me off at this stage?

I am a newbie to all this so would appreciate any help/tips I can get.

    Thanks

    Hi and welcome

They have 8 weeks for the reclaiming, they may ask for more time due to backlogs, as most companies are having them.

In regards of your data, please could you post up the name of the company so this can be checked upon. (You are able to do this on here, and it will also be a help to others that are also trying, thanks)

I would also contact the Information Commissioners Office (office hours) (ICO), for advice on this one.

    Good luck.

  • Hi all,

Sorry if this is long winded.

Just an update on my ppi claim against loans.co.uk. After reading a post on here suggesting that loans.co.uk had gone bust i decided to give them a call to check, and to see if they recieved my letter of complaint. So i got the number from their website and gave them a call, A guy answered stating money expert???? Now i'm confused! I explained to him that i had got the number from loans.co.uk website, He seemed very off with me and just said no we are money expert,i said ok then i will find an alternative number and hung up. I then decided to phone the fos to check, I spoke with a very nice lady in ppi claims department who said that she wasn't aware of them going bust and that she would put our case on file and also send them a letter reminding them of the 8 weeks they had to reply to us! BONUS i thought as i only contacted the fos to see if the company had gone bust and ended up with a little added help on our claim letting loans.co.uk know that the fos are already aware of it. The lady also gave me a reference number and said that if we haven't heard within the 8 weeks we are to ring her back and she we look into it for us.

Sorry if i bored you all but was just really suprised with how helpful the lady at the fos was.x
