  • Do not go to Terrys in Glasgow - I and a number of other friends used to go to Terrys when Terry was still alive, it was a really good tattooist then but after he died, his assistant took over and hired some right @rseholes!! who were pretty well matched to the assistant - I went back to get a half sleeve(even put in a holiday from work cause it was a private appointment & when I got there first thing in the morning I think the guy just couldn't be arsed & told me I wasn't booked in, even though I had booked it in the shop the week before - even had a card with the appointment on it but they basically told me that they weren't going to do it (travelled thirty miles to get there too) Had a big argument with them & almost rattled one of them in the jaw but noticed that one of the other @rseholes had his hand around the baseball bat they kept in the shop - bigger bunch of @rseholes I have never met - very surprised they even get away with calling it Terrys, considering he has been dead for over 10 years - keep away at all costs!!!!

Just had one done at Screamin Skulls in Lanark, friendly guys, good artists, great prices... and I'm very chuffed with it.

    Some places I wouldn't recommend:
Needleworks in Dumfres - had four done there and two of them have now been covered up and one 'fixed' by someone else (could see the individual lines in what what supposed to be a thick black swirl design).
Keith (can't remember the name of the studio) - I got one there that I am happy with, however, had heard reports that if you book for the afternoon then the chances are he has had a liquid lunch!
Scotland Ink in Girvan - got one on my foot which got a free touch up because it is black, noticed all the bits they missed after it was healed so I have some nice gaps in the design.....

    I WOULD recommend:
Andrew at Bishopmill in Elgin - he fixed the black swirls, and added to the design, very reasonable prices too.
Any of the guys at Elgin High Street Tattoo - Shaun has covered the ones from Dumfries, and added to them, and done a fantastic job of my custom back piece. Seen the other guys work aswell and theyre great. Price per hour, appointment system.
Inksomnia in Stranraer - Polish (I think). Haven't had any done by her but seen some fantastic work and she comes highly recommended. Some of her work available on Facebook and her own website.

Hope this helps anyone Scotland wide who is looking for a new piece of work!

  • Best quality art work I have seen in Edinburgh is at a small tattoo parlour called The Alchemist's Cave in Easter Road.
The guy is a great artist and also very friendly, since I discovered this place I have not been anywhere else. I have had 3 tattoos done there and very pleased with the end result

I'm in love with the Inkdependent guys (Marek and Marcin) they've done my tattoos and my SO's.

All my friends are going there too, check them out on FB.
  • Hey, I was looking for an artist who has a great reputation in doing oriental / japanese style work in Edinburgh.

I'm not fussed how much it would cost just as long as they are truly great and highly respected for their work.

I don't skimp and save when it comes to a piece of my body and something which will be forever.

Also, how can someone truly call a tattooist brilliant if that person has only ever been tattoo'd by one artist and can't compare, I don't take away credit from the artists who are truly great and their work speaks for itself. But honestly everyone who's had a tattoo done says their artists is the best, not everyone can be the best, everyone is good in their own style.
  • Inverness Tattoo Centre on Ardconnel Street are currently doing an amazing job on a full back tattoo for my husband. He's had 2 sittings, and back for a 3rd next month (it's that big) and he's delighted with it!! We would certainly recommend them.
