    Morning ladies

Pigpen I'm glad babe is safely here

Valli I so understand about your DS. I'm reading a great book at the minute about anger and irritability and often when we are cross it is because of one or more of three things - 1 of them is we have to incur a cost (in this case the money for the phone) and another is that a 'rule' has been broken (in this case that you - in my opinion quite rightly - feel that he should take care of things). It doesn't help solve situations it just helps us understand why we are angry.

Toots I once had my carpet cleaned by this old guy who had made his own machine for cleaning the carpets in dance halls and bingo halls. He recommended using the hottest water your hands can bear and simply using a bar of white unscented etc hand soap - this is what I use to spot clean bits of my carpet.

Soappie - enjoy your snow day

Beautiful sunny day here with snow still on the ground.

    Plan:
    [STRIKE]
    wm to maiden
    reload machine
    shower
walk to corner shop to post ebay stuff and buy balloons for DS3 birthday tomorrow
    [/STRIKE]hoover downstairs
    wipe living room
    more declutting in family room
    wipe family room
    S&S toilets and sinks
    DS3 reading and h/work

    That should do for now!

You need one of these http://www.justpoles.com/Portiere_&_Drapery_arms/c-1-146/ so that the curtain stays on the back of the door.

What width is your door? I may have a spare curtain in a few weeks!
    .
    Thanks for the link, greenbee.

My front door is 3' wide and the hall is 3'3" (you see the problem!)

Fortunately the main hall is at right angles to the front lobby and I have a sliding door at the junction. I know that helps because I can feel the difference when I go into the lobby, but some 'cold' must be getting through.

I posted earlier but the internet was VERY busy and it wouldn't upload.
DS is livid because HIS school is open and it appears to be the ONLY ONE locally - don't think so - I can think of two local primaries open. They set off but came back sharpish having got the message that it would open at 10. So then I had a battle royal with him because 'no-one' else is going (flippin MSN) and I have made him go. DD has gone without a murmur.
He has gone on his bike after ranting at me to take him IN THE CAR - told him he couldn't afford the excess if I ran into something or something ran into me. No way was I getting the car out in this. Our road is not good. So I feel quite drained after all that...windows open, bedrooms airing and have phone police to report lost mobile.
    Oh my school is closed:D
When he went out at 8 he couldn't unlock the gate because the padlock was frozen. I handed him a kettle of just boiled water to thaw it and got a very grumpy 'you ruin everything don't you'. Yes oh yes 'Egon'. The woes of the world are ALL, without exception, MY responsibility :rotfl:

    HHC anyone?

Welcome Jacob Paul...(and good about the carpet...)

No one is prepared to admit it...

soappie - not surprised you don't want to go out. It's just started snowing again here!

crafty - I have very little space either side of my front door, as the stairs come down immediately next to it and there is a wall the other side. I have a fixed pole and the curtain is very narrow so there isn't too much to tie back - it does mean that the door doesn't open fully unless you take the curtain down, but I don't have a problem with that! I have friends who have curtains over internal doors too, to keep the cold from halls/stairwells out of rooms. My brother's house in devon was very draughty, so we had to put curtains up at the top and bottom of the stairs (they went straight from each of the 2 downstairs rooms into the bedrooms)

Office is closed again, so I've got everyone working from home, including one who says he has man flu, so can't think! His girlfriend (who can't drive, so relies on public transport which isn't running) has been told by her boss she has to go in... she works for an airline which doesn't have any flights at the moment, in an office role that she could do from home. So he's having to drive her there and back. I really don't understand the point of making people go in to the office who don't need to if a. they could work from home or b. they don't have any work to do  particularly when driving conditions aren't great. Apparently everyone was told to make sure they parked their cars on main roads so they didn't have problems getting out in the morning.

I've done the washing up, dried up the stuff that was sitting next to the sink, and washed the DW filter seeing as it was empty. Also wiped out the fridge, which was still clean from last week - possibly because there is next to nothing in there!
