  • :hello: from snowy Birmingham airport!

Well, we're open at the moment tho we have shut twice already - have just escaped from the info desk to scarf some belated lunch - it's like a madhouse out there! I am NOT looking forward to the drive home tonight after 12 hours here - they've said we might get A FOOT  of snow then try to drive in again early tomorrow - can't even stay at one of the airport hotels as they're all full - I may resort to kipping in the rest room yet.

Cazzie - huge ((hugs)) for your and your friend - my sis had a full term baby die at birth 2 years ago and it was horrific for the whole family and we all reacted very differently - I learnt from it that there is no one way to mourn, and that being a practical help (shopping, cooking, being there to help with paperwork, being able to provide an ear/tissues when needed) is just as important as being sympathetic - also, as someone already said, be prepared to help in a few weeks, she may be overwhelmed now. You'll know what's needed, I'm sure xx (I found the SANDS site very helpful as a family member)

Wonder if Miss A has built her snowman yet?

Lovely pics Carlsberggal - I haven't got round to posting my pics yet (I've only been married 5 months - don't rush me :D)

See your lovely photo hogger got in on the act again soappie - you've done a great job on the floor

pigpen - what are you plotting???? I'm now dreading tomorrow's list :D

Off to do some work and wipe the pasta sauce off the keyboard x
    I'd rather be watching CSI!

It's snowing again... and I need to go outside to read the gas meter!

From an energy saving perspective, this is a good opportunity to see (without the use of expensive thermal imaging technology) where the problem areas in your house are.

Go outside and have a look up at the roof. If the snow has settled, your loft insulation is fine. If it has melted... buy and fit more at the next available opportunity.

You may also be able to tell where the walls and windows are letting heat escape by looking at where snow has settled and melted. And go round the house inside looking for cold spots and working out what you can do about them (I need to build a porch, as the front door is a major cold spot, but I can't see it happening soon... I already have a draught excluder and a curtain - which I plan to widen - so am thinking about taping it up and using the back door for the rest of the winter!)

Pollyanna Greenbee strikes again! Sees the positive side...:rotfl: seriously - good idea! Just picturing all these Flyladies studying melt patterns on their roofs. (Flat roof out back is thick with snow AND that's where the boiler is;))

    - when I read your post about baby Chloe I too thought that not only should you be an ear now - but later when Chloe should have joined the world - and Pigpen confirms this. I had a colleague (I didn't know here very well) who lost a toddler in an accident - and I could NOT say words at all - I was so very sad - so I went to the funeral. I though it awful though that managers didn't go...When she came back to work I could say nothing but I hugged her...

carol - put it on its hottest wash (ideally 90 degrees) with some soda crystals and vinegar in, it will clean out the pipes etc. also worth giving the seal a wipe round. If you have any cleaning cloths you can chuck them in at the same time for a good wash!
