Linda - that's lovely and so how I think too - I'm much happier with a kindness or thoughtfulness than money -thank you for posting

it is my mother in laws 65th birthday this year and she's already said she doesn't want a fuss
so I've come up with the idea and my daughter has been on about doing this for ages of having a professional photo taken of all the grandchildren together
also my hubbys brothers both have money and we don't have loads and if we go out for a meal theres going to be lots of money spent on drink , I also have a 3 year old nephew and a year old niece who are just not going to want to be stuck at a table if we go to a restaurant so I'm going to suggest we all chip in and have a big family barbeque at my house

    not tight.

it's the thought that counts not the cost
  • I think it is a lovely idea. We did the photo thing a couple of year back for my mother in law and included all her children, other halves and grandchildren. It took quite some organising to get everyone together but it was worth it as she loved it. As for the BBq idea, we do that every year for everyones birthday! there are 20 of us in total and it more fun for the kids to be all together in someones house/garden and alot more relaxing for all involved. I have two brothers and two sisters and we take it in turns which house is used. We also do the same thing for mothers day, fathers day, easter and xmas. Everyone brings some food and drink and it is a BBQ in summer and buffet in winter.
  • A shameless plug but if Mum is an Old Styler (or a potential OS fan) don't forget the free to download MSE Old Style Moneysaving calendar I have made using some of the tips on the site. There are 2009 and 2010 versions available to download and print out.
:D Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!:D
  • I don't think that's tight at all, infact it's a lovely idea, alot of thought and care has gone into those!! xx
