maybe there will be a free internet connection in clink ........

I am glad you told him ......
They will value you once your contract comes to an end! Most technology gets cheaper over time.
If you want it really cheap then share a wireless connection with a 8meg ISP between neighbours. You can get the set up for as cheap as £40 and extra aerials for £15. Then share a £14.99 service between 5 people at £3/month.
That's what i do. Well actually my neighbour doesn't know we're sharing!

See post 7 GreenNotM - but Thanks for the link - I knew I read that somwhere! But Andrew has a point - a good MSE way would be to club together with neighbours - not sure if any of the ISP's have something in their contract to stop this though so would need to check.

have a look at this http://www.netgear.co.uk/extra/b_wirelessantenna_ant24d18.php is directional - but depends what make the router is. so here is a bigger choice http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?rb=15829465527&action=c2hvd3N1YmNhdGVnb3J5X3BhZ2U=&subcat_uid=1027

There will soon be MIMO and 11N kit available with greater distances avail.

"A recent court case, which saw a West London man fined £500 and sentenced to 12 months' conditional discharge for hijacking a wireless broadband connection, has repercussions for almost every user of wi-fi networks."

Please see post 7.. andrewmoorcroft..has cleared this up, gave us a laugh in the meantime... but I hope he's found one or two of the suggested fixes for his problem helpful.

Thanks I already read post 7. I was mealy clarifying the law as I wasn't 100% sure myself and was responding to the first 2 posts. Perhps I should of made it more clear.

I myself dont have good wireless even though my router netgear dg384g and Netgear pci card are 5 metres away.

A friend has same hardware yet he gets better connection than I do, he got extended aerial (similar to the orginal but slightly larger) on the router and vice versa on the pci card which helps a lot.

I get better wirless upstair funny enough usinga Belkin usb wireless pen drive.

I been told that DAC phones can cause problems with connection and to change channels I have done all that, but doesnt appear to help.

Thanks cant remember what version I have just looking for the settings.
  • it should easily do 5 metres without any problems or any bigger aerials, unless you have lead walls..two feet thick!

I think its the pc I have, its utter rubbish got it free from a friend I use that one for tv out to hdtv its a 2.4 celeron old tpye 400mhz new one sare much better. It often restarts even though I have reinstalled XP.

I have updated firmware I miised that version but though "firmware update pompt" is taken ages even though I am now back on net.

I load steting from a different windows and its a frame as normal but one side says error 404.
