PCN, Any point in appealling it?

  • So you agree that you were in the wrong by overstaying your ticket.

You now want to find a way of wriggling out of it?

Unless the ticket machine clock is consulted there is no conclusive way of knowing if frannyann overstayed (even going by her own watch unless she synchronised it). Have you never owned a watch/clock that is out of synch with the others you own?

Frannyann, ignore the negativity. Some might argue that your trying to "wriggle out of it" but if it was their money at stake they too would look for a way out and besides if the CEO has not followed the correct procedure and done things by the book why should you not also be allowed the same leniency?

    On the clock thing?

I've noticed for some time now that many of the clocks on the ticket machines here are often significantly out - By as much as 30 minutes across a single street.

What might the position be for a challenge based on poor maintenance/not being able to tell the time in the first place? Or is the definitive time the one on the enforcer's machine?

Thanks Pogofish....your observation proves my point. When it comes to expiry of ticket time it is only the machine clock that can be definitive and certainly not the enforcers machine unless it has been synchronised or compared and any such action would have to be recorded.

The truth is that for a CEO to stop and synchronise or compare every 50 or so metres with a ticket machine (then note it down) would seriously hinder their ability to maximise PCN issue, so generally it is never done. The public are not generally aware that machine clocks need to be synchronised with or at least consulted with and so it goes unchecked.
