  • Miffi,
Don't feel stupid, just be glad you did tell him when you did! My husband always said to tell him if I was struggling with finances but I was ashamed to tell him. It was the FASTEST downward spiral-more like a black hole- and it has put our lives on hold for a very long time.
BUT, we have each other, 2 beautiful heathly children, and a house over our heads and food in the cupboard. We are wealthy in all that counts. I'm glad I have helped in a small way. Truly glad.

    Hi Bunny,

Cannot imagine what you are going through, but just to let u know that I'm thinking of you. Well done for telling him, maybe you should him your post and the replies that you have, and he can see that you are not the only one going through this (although it may feel like it) and that there are people to support you. He may even get inspiration on what steps you can both take together.

All the very best and keep us posted....

    Lo
  • You sound so much happier bunny! I know you are still at the start of a steep climb but its easier with someone to share it. Good for you two.
  • Hi bunny,

Glad to hear an update from you - I was thinking about you today when I was making the tea!

Hope things continue to go okay for you

    Hi Bunny

I just read this thread & just wanted to say I was in a very similar situation to you only a few weeks ago. One day my husband found a pile of credit card bills, sat me down & asked me did we really owe all this money? I had to admit we did - & actually there was more - tbh I thought he would be furious with me or sink into depression. At least you had the guts to tell your OH, I think I would still be hiding it from mine now if he hadn't found out. For me, the relief of sharing the burden meant not being frightened he would get to the post first, not being afraid to answer the phone or of him answering it - & actually sleeping at night! So I can really relate to your story of not being scared for him to go in your handbag for a stamp.

For the first week or so he was fairly quiet & I did all I could to show him I meant business by taking all the advice from the great people on here. I've reduced our outgoings by hundreds of pounds & am also maximising our income. We had such a good week doing this & then we agreed to set a date for being debt-free together in 3 years time. It will be a hard slog but I know we can do it & the great thing is that we are getting such a buzz out of it & it is making us closer, not driving us apart.
I will post an update, but not here, it will make too much for everyone to read!

BUT I want to thank you one & all for the help & support !!!! I can see that you are going to make it Bunny & I am thrilled for you... keep us updated on how things turn out.

Well done for telling your OH.............I have just told my partner....I was sitting at the computer and said that I was going to look into a DMP....then I quickly said I owe about 30k...........my heart was going like the clappers!!! I outlined what I owed and how I was going to deal with it - he then admitted to me that he was having a few problems......and that he was going to go for a small re-mortgage - which will pay his 'small' amount of debt off. Jeez! what a swizz........anyhow we have now been totally honest with each other and the mood in the house has lifted.

Proud to be dealing with my debts
