Hair found in frozen ready meal?

Our Food Hygiene Regulations in the UK state that "Food has to be protected from the risk of contamination" but it does not state that hairnets have to be worn.

However in a high risk environment like a ready meal factory, I would expect that staff will be wearing hairnets and hats, but that won't stop the risk of a hair ending up in a meal, it reduces it.

I found a used sticky plaster in a frozen plaice fillet....it wasn't even a blue one, usually used in food factories etc. they gave me a £10 Boots voucher when I complained, needless to say I never bought frozen food from them again and I never ate plaice after that either! :eek:

Haven't found a hair but have found some fairly nasty bits and pieces over the years. I always write and complain and I also return the object wrapped up carefully in kitchen paper or foil. Hair isn't nice but think it could be a lot worse. Send off your letter and wait for vouchers and apology.

What do you expect to achieve? There's going to be a hair in food ever now and again.

They probably want to achieve better working standards in the factory it is produced in - or at least a quick go around with a mop.

Even with good working practices a hair might still slip into the food.

I shudder to think how many times my own hair has gone into food prepared at home...maybe best not to think too long on that one! Also how many of us with pets have occassionally found a pet hair on our plates?
