Property near electric transmission tower

We found a repossessed property but about 400 yards from the back garden is a electric transmission tower (pylon?). There is no overhead electric or underground electric cable running over or under the property. It is just closer to electric transmission.

1. Does it affect our health? because it is closer to electric cables there were rumours that it affects a person health
2. does it affect property value?

Is it worth getting the property at lower cost or is it not worth the risk? Please let me know.

I wouldn't buy it. It's up to you, but it does mean that on reselling it you'll have trouble finding a buyer. Especially if more research comes out in the meantime that says bad things about them.

Have a good google and make up your own mind.
Beware of putting a child in a bed with the head board just the other side of the wall from an electricity meter, especially if your house is the last one on the wire from the power station.
You can walk round the house and garden with a medium/short wave radio and see how much "noise" is being produced by local electricity sources.
Check the voltage of the overhead lines 240 is meaningless but something in the 10's of thousands isn't.

I know someone who nearly had a phone transmission tower built in a playing field behind his house. Managed to get the local council to oppose it.
There is an on-line map showing all the different sizes of transmission tower in the country.
Every potential purchaser should check it.
It is amazing how many there are hidden away as lamposts etc. in built up areas.

don't bother - when you go to sell peope will have the same doubts as you are having. it will be harder to shift if you got to sell than a 'normal' property. think of it as trying to sell a left-hand drive car.

    Hang on a 2nd here.

People live next to underground electricity cables all the time. The difference being they don't know about it.

If you live next to a main/or 'mainish' road. You'll have one within meters of you now.

I don't know. but I wouldn't buy one, why risk it? I've seen, over the years, a number of cases of leukemia being connected with living next to them. I also strongly believe that the electromagnetic energy pumped out by them must affect the physiology of the body, particuarly the brain.

I wouldn't touch it as it would interfere with AM radio reception.

If you're worried about it, don't buy it.

If you're not, be aware that others may be, and factor that into any offer you make.

In my opinion - we are constantly bombared with electromagnetic waves of all frequencies. And yet we live longer than at any time in the past. If it does cause any harm, it's hardly likely to be in the same league as smoking, or overeating/drinking.

    There are supposedly risks from:

    cordless home phones

    mobile phones

    wireless networks

    ????

Research suggests there may be a danger to susceptable people, but you have no way of knowing if you are one of the unlucky few. To cut yourself off from modern technology because of the small risk will limit your lifestyle.

Whether think of living near a pylon as adding to the risk is a matter for you but it will affect the resale. Some would say that is fine you get more bucks for your money and selling low is OK because you bought low. In good times such houses will sell slower and for less, in bad times they won't sell.
