I used to work for Asda while i was at University. Brilliant place to work at, i stayed for 4 years and would have stayed for a lot longer but finished Uni and went elsewhere.

Think they pay around 6 quid an hour.

I don't understand why companies over here thinks staff members in the US sing and dance on tables. We really don't!

Totally agree. When I went for an ASDA interview we all had to do the Walmart dance, which, to me, was rather embarrasing and unnessacary. (I was also the oldest interviewee in the room at the ripe old age of 25 , all the rest were college kids 18-19 years old so they were well into it.lol.) Apperently they do these "American type" interviews to find out who enjoys participating the most and is more likely to be a "team player"
Argos does/used to these type of interviews as well, how they manage to pick suitable candidates amongst 20-30 ppl is beyond me, might as well just pull names out of a hat and be done
I prefer the old type interviews where a employer interviews you face to face instead of a whole bunch of hopeful wannbe employees having to dance and sing and take part in team exercises.
To the OP, ASDA are always looking for people to work on the meat/cheese counters. Apperently those are the vacancies that are the hardest to fill.
BEST EVER WINS WON IN ORDER (so far) = Sony Camcorder, 32" lcd telly, micro ipod hifi, Ipod Nano, Playstation 3, Andrex Jackpup, Holiday to USA, nintendo wii, Liverpool vs Everton tickets, £250 Reward Your thirst, £500 Pepsi, p&o rotterdam trip, perfume hamper, Dr Who stamp set, steam cleaner.

comping = nowt more thrillin' than winnin':T :j

Hey guys. Sorry to drag up an old thread but Im looking for current pay rates of all the major supermarkets. Im starting uni in September and I am hoping to get some part time work but would like to know which one pays the best. Also, do asda still do the singing/dancing thing at interview? Cos I'll be crossing that off my list if they do!
    Thinking it over...:o

    I'd give Asda a miss.

My daughter went for an interview there and they spent the whole time standing in circles jumping up and down and shouting slogans. Apparently they do it every day before work.

They weren't impressed when my daughter pointed out that we live in England not the USA.

Waitrose can be a good one to work for as the bonuses can be good.

I dont remember that and i worked there whilst it was Wal*Mart owned for 3 years!

OP - The process for Asda involves: application form, assessment centre, 1 to 1 interview.

Application form is really easy, assessment centre is just to pick out the nutters and the people that didnt understand english currency. There was a tiny role play and plenty of teamwork activities but they dont want really shy people that wouldnt talk to customers and they dont want complete loudmouths that would scare customers either. 1 to 1 interview depends on the manager, i found mine was very relaxed and informal and he basically told me half way through that i had the job but he just wanted a chat and to know more about me as a person (and im male just incase you think he was hitting on me, and he wasnt gay! :rotfl:)

Anyway its all straightforward and no prior experience/qualifications are needed.

Also be prepared to write down lots of working hours during the assessment centre, as soon as you get the job you can negotiate your hours :T

Just realised how old this post is, oops! haha

Asda and Tesco pay pretty much the same at around £6.50 for days and most other major chains are slightly below.

ALDI have always payed the highest rate. Not sure on LIDL or Waitrose.

Where will you be based at uni? ASDA also let people work between stores so if you go home for christmas you can work in that local store and if you're in a different part of the country during terms you can work at that local store - obviously with the relevant agreements in place etc. Not sure if others also do this type of seasonal work so its worth a check.
