  • Hi Love-Hearts ... well done and if you want to sell them, get in touch as somebody says on here they are like Marlborough Red - be happy to relieve you of temptation (Paypal payment).

I am off to France on Monday next with my non-smoking hubbie - £19 day return with car at the moment with P&O - Dover to Calais return. Not sure of the prices in Belgium but understand it is much cheaper than France. Working it out, if I pay £56.00 per carton here x 32 =£1792.00 (GB), if we buy 32 cartons @ say £32 = £1024, that would be a saving of £768 !!!! Plus if you buy a meal on board, it is buy 1 get 1 free and supposedly (!!) 6 bottles of wine free (must be some small print somewhere). Throw in some Clarins, cheese etc (no French bread as it will be stale before we get home lol)

Can anybody tell me whether it is worth the trek (about 45 mins) to Belgium ? The costs of cigs France v Beglium and also the cost of petrol.

Please post asap as I have left it very close to my departure time - whoops.

    Thanks. Lindy-lou
    Regards

Click HERE for the latest prices in Belgium, best to pay in ££s cash. Check the prices on the boat on the way over as these will be French prices, maybe a bit different to allow for the conversion to £s from Euros.

Spain is the place to go these days, we did an overnight to Girona, £8 flights £28 hotel, £12 car hire extra £5 for petrol and biggest rip-off £21 for 25 hours parking at Bournemouth, Grand total £74 for all 4 of us !! JPS 23.50 Euros/200 GV 3.5 EUs/50g.

Fantastic trip. Would easily have done it myself if I could bring back beer with savings. But that is done by car to Germany (living in Sweden instead).
Not being a smoker myself I see no reason for doing an overnight for tobacco. But if I did smoke I would have done the same...

Every few months I go to Belgium and buy the 3kg limit of GV. I went about 3 weeks ago on the P&O deal, £19 return with car and get 6 free bottles of wine (which are worth £19!). The problem I have is that I can never find anyone wanting to share the costs of the trip. I leave Huddersfield around 2:00am Sunday morning and get home about 6:00pm Sunday night and my costs are around £100 plus the cost of the GV. I always go with 3 empty seats in my diesel estate car. If anyone is interested in sharing the costs of future trips please PM me. But, I will not bring back more than the limit, I always get pulled by customs and I do not buy it to sell. Thanks

He is paying £5.50 as he is paying in Euros, its cheaper if you pay in Sterling. I know its strange but I was told its because they have to buy the fags etc with Sterling.

Have a look at https://www.day-tripper.net it has loads of advice on where fags are cheap and price lists

Thanks for all your suppport folks.

Have done my 'ciggy run' across the water today. Drove up to Adinkerke (Belgium) and there are 3 shops all within walking distance - bought B&H for £38.50 per carton - nice lady threw in a whole load of lighters and chocs - well I did spend a lot of money with her!!!

We travelled by P&O on their £19 day return trip - the 6 bottles of wine they are giving away are a choice of red, white or rose - I chose white for my poor student daughter (!) and the chap told me it is quite a drinkable wine (S African).

Petrol in France is E1.11 per litre (more than ours) and food shopping at Carrefor I thought was expensive. On the way back somebody was telling me that the shop Aushen (?) is cheaper and it is very near to Sainsbury's.

Definitely worth the trip as it was so cheap to travel plus the free wine - so it really only cost us petrol. Had breakfast on board (2 for the price of 1) which was good.

Had a fab day as there was no traffic and the sunshine was brilliant - just what the doctor ordered!! :j :j

Lindy did you use the daytripper special price for the ferry?

Glad you like Adenkerke, we always stop there on the way back from where ever we have been for an all day breakfast and fags. There are loads more fag shops than 3 there.
