Just recieved an email mesage from Orange (my broadband provider) who want to donate the vat they say they can't work out since 1st December to UNICEF. Great idea but hardly legal is it?
I said I have a twenty year old AMSTRAD 8256 in the garage that will work out the figures for them. The cheek of it.

It's very legal. They didn't have to reduce your VAT at all.
You can call into the broadband team on 07973 100550 and ask for a refund of 2.1% of your broadband price from Dec 1st to Feb 1st if you like, however. A cheque will be posted to you within 90 days.0 -
Strange I had a text from Orange that every time I top up by £10 it will get me £1 towards a new phone with Orange Phone Fund and that this replaces the VAT2008£3002009£13002010£15002011£41952012£21942013£1494

If they can't work it out how do they know how much to give to charity?ALISHEEPMAN wrote: »Just recieved an email mesage from Orange (my broadband provider) who want to donate the vat they say they can't work out since 1st December to UNICEF. Great idea but hardly legal is it?

This is for Home Broadband by the way - not mobile PAYM or PAYG.
I think the info relates to them having been unable to implement the VAT reduction in-time on home broadband, so the over-charge will be donated to charity.
If you're charged £24.99 0- it's ~53p per month over-charge.
What in theory you can do is complain that:
a) if they've charged you 17.5% VAT they've over charged you for VAT and you want the money refunded.
b) if they've charged you 15% VAT 'cos they're sending the rest to Charity that you want the cash back.
c) that if they've charged you 15% VAT and they're giving the money to Charity that for the 2-3 months they've broken their contract with you and over-charged you for the service without providing 30 days notice prior to change and as such they are in breach of their contractual T&Cs.

Orange doing so this way is a con, the charity is probably a Cable & Wireless registered charity LOL, well they did sell off all their Mobile divisions in alot of the world since 2000, One2One UK, Optus AU etc etc - & the value of C&W plumeted
C&W -backhaul provider of Orange Broadband, & C&W Commercial/Business mobile offerings airtime supply is supplied by whom ?
SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe

hey diamonds, can u point out where in oranges T&C it says they will pass the saving of any VAT cut to the customer - does the same T&C state that whe the government raises VAT to 20% next year that they they will pass the cost onto the customer...be careful what you wish for0

check your previous bills £**.** + VAT @ 17.5% = £**.**
the 15% rate should have brought your bills down, any agreement T&C is service charge of £**.** + 17.5% = £19.99 for example, so 15% is not £19.99, BillBennett/Orange stance would not stand in court, you agreed to £**.** + 17.5 VAT nothing more nothing less.
it is strange Orange mobile division has not follwed its broadband division & vice versa....Orange UK is one messed up puppy since France Telecom bought it, its slightly better in 30 months i have been a customer, but is slight enough ?
As for the 20% increase, your living in a bubble if you think Orange & any other business will absorb that into their bottom line, you will be paying 2.5% more than you were last November
my £5 Broadband Unlimited will go up & its still under £6, still a great deal its not like Orange are even breaking even on the £5
£5 on broadband, £10 on mobile as a minimum Orange plans, there is no excuse for the mess of Orange internally - its money in the door
bet them Orange FREE Broadband customers are laughing LOL, no VAT !
Anyone heard of Orange broadband HOME DISCOVERY ? http://www.orange.co.uk/terms/6896.htm?linkfrom=terms_internet_default&link=box_main_pos_1_2_link_1&article=termsandconditionsmobileandbroadbandoffer
Unique customers were put on Broadband Unlimited , as I said one sick puppy is Orange internally, ar se & elbowSO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies...
