Either your a bit brutal haha!... or more likely they sold you a right dog of a PC!!!! thats an outrageous level of failures!
  • you've had a motherboard, dvd drive and a PSU all fail within 1 year! I suppose that's what happens when machines are built to a low price. Only hardware that I've had fail (beyond the 1st week or so) have been graphics cards (1 ATI + 1 Nvidia)...but considering the way I treat them I'm not surprised :) ...and 1 winpower PSU..I deserved that for using rubbish! ...and 1 CPU...I ran it briefly without a cooler...it went "bang" :)

I'd still go for someone else's suggestion of the Aldi PC, good spec, good value for money, good warranty, I wouldn't warn family members away from it (and I'm the one who has to fix everything)

How many years warranty do Dell include for free?

I know a lot of people swear by them but I wouldn't spend my own money on Dell stuff. Thats just my personal (and professional) experience.

was actually within 3 years and yes i HAMMER my pcs!

Can you define "Hammer my PCs"...to me it means overclocking CPU, GPU and RAM, and running the CPU and GPU at 100% load 24/7 (good fans needed!).

Playing FPS games and emailing does not count as "hammering"

Dell include a years (think it may be onsite) warranty.

Have to say this is the first Dell Ive had and Im very pleased with the spec and with the quality of service. Ive paid double for computers previously and they have spent more time being repaired than on my desk so this time I bought cheap and Im amazed how good it is. Plus you actually get an answer when you ring service and quickly too.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions, I'm not going to rush in to buying one, I was thinking of getting this one next week, but I might wait and look at a few of the places you have suggested

I was thinking of paying upto £400 for a laptop, but luckly I got to try one out a couple of weeks ago and I just could not get on with it, so thats why I'm now looking at a desktop. I really liked the look of the comet one because the tower was alot smaller which ment I could have it on top of my desk so I did not have to bend down to use it, plus I knew the make.

  • you'll need a monitor with either...go at least 19" ...and I'd suggest widescreen...and the aldi PC over the comet one

Don't go through Quidco - reason is because if you price up a system with Dell, then ring them up and barter, you can generally get a lot more knocked off it than what you'd get through Quidco.

Also, negotiate for the warranty too - I've just got 3 years next day at home warranty from Dell for a new laptop I got. I got a fair few quid off the warranty...and you may get it cheaper in the same order as the machine at the moment.
My suggestion and/or advice is my own and it is up to you if you follow it, please check the advice given before acting on it.
