Why not get this one from Aldi on the 5th? better spec, great looking and 3 years warranty for free! (and a free mouse & keyboard!) £389 !!!!!!

I know many people who have had Aldi PC's and they have been superb.

And people in Comet and PC World know what they are talking about?

  • given a choice of a PC from tesco...or PC world...I'd go to tesco!
Both sell anonymous boxes, but at least the tesco staff aren't on commission...or under pressure to sell guarantees

pcworld staff are not on commission (yes, i used to work there, and left when i didn't get commisson) however, i was one of those sales people that actually knew what he was talking about..

nowadays... pfft... product knowledge isn't Pc worlds strong point... or weak point.. or any point.. they just employ people who can lift the box onto the trolley...

"nowadays"?! They have always been utterly hopeless, you must have been in the 1% of people who had some knowledge who worked there. Without doubt one of the worse electronic/PC retailers in the UK.

Back to the OP. Don't waste your money on an extended guarantee, complete waste of money IMO. If there is an extra clause saying it also covered accidental damage, note that this is nearly always covered in your home insurance, so is a waste of time too.

Personally I'd go for Dell as you can customise the spec. Current best Dell deals listed here at: www.dmxdimension.co.uk

As stated, if a PC is going to break its usually pretty quick or much later down the line. All Aldi stuff is covered by a no quibble 30 day return policy - I know I have used it. (Aldi sell terrible vacuum cleaners!)

If you get a PC from there and it breaks within 30 days simply dump it back on the checkout and they will give you a refund. After 30 days you have 3 years of manufacturers warranty. You also get free Normal rate telephone support so there are your experts.

Does it matter if its Aldi or PC World staff who put the box in your trolley? you won't have any queries untill you get home and set it up, then your not going to have much fun keep driving back to PC World and asking the uninterested salesman for help!

Don't get me wrong - its good all the people trying to help but the OP stated they are not 'computer savy' and trying to sort out a spec for a PC from online or Dell etc may seem simple to us but is going to confuse the hell out of them! we could make this thread 100 post long just debating the amount of graphics memory they should order!

The point with the Aldi one (yes I know but I don't work for them!) is its FULLY loaded with all the hardware and software a non savy person is ever going to need, its extrememly good value, minimum risk and they can walk home with the box, plug it in and get on with their stuff.

The OP can buy the basic package on Dell - the Inspiron is there and is cheaper than the Comet one. They dont need to sort their own specs if they go for the package.
