Had a quick glance over the posts and can't see anybody suggesting this.

Why not just say the existing card is damaged or cracked?

Unless it's lost or stolen all they will do is send out a replacement with the same card number and expiry date etc.
I can assure you the card number and expiry date will be different even if you do it this way

I have 2 barclaycards, same start and end date, same card number etc etc, because I rang up when one didn't arrive in the 7 days stated, and they just sent out the same card again!

I've had replacement cards with the same number and expiry date on before.

Here's what I'd do. Phone them and ask for a replacement card because you don't like the way the name is presented on the card (decide on a different way to have it that you like first). When they issue the new card, see if the old one keeps working - it might only do for a month (say) before they cancelled it. If they ask why you're still using both cards, appologise, say you got confused and stop using the old one.

My suspicion is that the old card will stop working, but all it will cost you to find out is the call, the time and a change of name format.

She should get one of those card holders and put it round her neck under her blouse if it's that much of a worry. They cannot check her bodily - it's yer uman rites!!
  • \could she open a second current account with the same bank, transfer money across from A to B online when she needs it, and use the card from account B to get the money?

When I went to Halifax once and asked for a replacement card they said the existing one would work for a month and then stop working

wow!!. I bet work have rules like having to be at your desk logged on ready to work as well at your start time.

Surely other people have the issue as well, is there no union?

15 mins start of day, lunchtime twice and end of work. Soon adds up on the time and a half.
