Gmail's privacy policy puts me off, ie scanning your emails to send targeted advertising.0

What's the big deal with a computer matching adverts against a bunch of words in your emails - its not like someone if sifting through your mail individually.
It wouldn't surpise me if other companies do a similar thing to Google, except don't declare it.
For info, for the past couple of weeks my Gmail and GoogleMail acocunts haven't shown any adverts against my emails. When there were adverts, I found them much less intrusive than the likes of Hotmail anyway.0 -
For one thing I don't like adware.
Second, as harmless as it may be I don't feel it is Gmail's business what music, videogames, books etc I buy.
As there are adfree alternatives I use them instead. No doubt other companies will be looking at Gmail's business model so it might be the way they all go in the end.0 -
Gmail would only know what you buy, if you actually start clicking through their adverts. Or if you mean they know because of the receipts your receiving my email, then so does your credit card company know this information - loyalty card schemes etc etc.0

Either way, it's a pointless argument. I don't like adware. If you don't mind adware then it isn't a problem.
Oh I give in, someone send me a gmail invite
