My electricity bill

Judging by some of the costs people have quoted here for electricity usage, I wonder if we might not be better comparing the units we use, and also stating who are supplier is, to get an idea of whether we might be paying more than we should?
The figure I quoted above of £45 a month is my own calculation based on units used and doesn't take into account any discounts for dual fuel, DD or paperless billing etc that I might get when the actual bill comes in. I'm certainly not expecting it to be any higher than that anyway
Ok, I'll start the ball rolling ... electricity is supplied by British Gas and I'm using approx 150 units a week for 3 people living in a 3-bed house."An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will"

I have the "bill" in front of me at work (waiting for Scottish Power to contact me) for the 7 days of meter readings that I had to do
White meter 1 Night 358 units @ 3.682 = £13.18
White meter 1 Day 64 units @ 8.535 = £5.46
Standing Charge - 7 days @ 16.270 = £1.14
Total = £19.78
This is for a 2 bedroom house - heating is storage heaters which charge at night. 2 Adults - 2 kids part time (most weekends - some 2 nights some 1 night)
DD at moment is £65 per month

Is everyone aware that all energy suppliers offer free energy efficiency advice? If you look on their website it should give you details otherwise it'll probably give you a number to ring on the back of your bill.
They have to do this as part of the terms of their licence.
I have to go to work now - guess what sort of company I work for!!!0 -

We live in a 3 bedroom semi, two adults and two teenagers. Our electricity bill is £40, which my husband thinks is far too high. However, after reading this thread I think its about right. Quite often if the two of us have been out leaving the teenager girls at home we arrive back and the house is fully illuminated! I have to check which room they have missed so I can turn the light on and make it a full set!
My husband annoys me though because at night he insists on having only the light on in the room you are in (fair enough you may think) but then he will switch lights on during the day just because its a bit cloudy and he thinks its too dark!0 -
I am starting to wonder if I have a meter that isnt working also
. My electric bill, paid by dd each month is £25. I seem to be a few pence in credit at the moment too. This is for a family of 5 in a 3 bed mid terrace.
I am home all day with the children so the tv is on often, the front room is very dark so that light is on most of the day and has 4 bulbs in it, the WM is on at least twice a day, PC on all day although I turn the screen off when its not in use, we leave the bathroom light on overnight for dd. It seems like we ought to be paying more than we are??
Our supplier is EDF, but I do change regularly to take advantage of offers etc. Am begining to wonder how much we will be hit by a higher payment when we move into our 3 bed semi in a couple of weeks
I dont know how to tell how many units we use daily, can anyone helpme out with that please?

My quarterly bill (90 days)which I paid in January was $403.85.
We pay an ambulance levy of $22.22 each bill (everybody does) for free ambulance services.
My bill is slightly different but the reading on 23/9 was 64351
to 22/12 67153
which means we used 2802 units.
We do have a huge bill compared to some as we are not on town water. So everytime we turn a tap on etc, it's power for the pumps. Air conditioning is also very expensive and we are really frugal with that as well. Mainly at night to sleep and really really hot days. Unfortuntaly we have only one electricity supplier in Australia, so they can charge want they want. You just have to cop it sweet.Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.0 -
We made a conscious effort to be careful with electricity since moving to this new build 3 bedroom town house. Our bill is approx £50 a quarter and I am home 24/7. In my last home it was £46 a month
We have those sparkly ceiling lights and an enclosed and dark hall but we got a rad cover and set up a small table lamp with an energy saving bulb. It is light enough.
Obviously we use energy saving bulbs where we can. No standby switches are left on anywhere
I have used the TD twice in one year. Clothes have to dry indoors but I use a centrally heated bathroom with an airer standing in the bath
Two pc`s are on all day
I always try to fill the oven and use the SC when I can. I do nothing spectacular and nothing too difficult but it does add up. I am now in the process of moving to SP as I believe I can reduce my bills further0 -

Al.
Your supplier should have notes on reading a meter on their site for you. If not, the link below is to British Gas - how to read a gas and an electric meter.

Does anyone know where on the high street is the best place to buy an assortment of low energy lightbulbs. I particularly want candle ones to replace the ones in a triple light fitting in the hallway and cold cathode to replace the 4 halogen bulbs in my kitchen, virtually everywhere else in the house now has the low energy ones and I have noticed a big difference in my bills considering how dark my house is and that the kids seem incapable of switching off a light or shutting a door after themselves.Organised people are just too lazy to look for things
