Hi all
Was wondering if anyone could tell how or maybe point me in the right direction on how to replace Windows XP with Windows 95 on my other pc.
Do i just buy a copy of 95 and put it in the pc and it sets off and overwrites XP or is a lot more complex.
I am a complete dummy when it comes to PC's so please excuse my lack of knowledge.
Regards.

Windows 95? Are you serious? Before we continue may I ask why you want to revert to a legacy operating system?Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.0

The windows 95 CDs were bootable so in theory you just put the CD in the pc but unfortunatly windows 95 doesnt read NTFS file systems which is what windows XP uses so you can't just boot to the cd and install XP.
casting my mind back I may be a little confused with 98 and 95 but I will give it a go anyway.
You need to use the CD to boot the pc but one of the options is to boot to ms dos with cd rom support
then when you get to the prompt you need to go to the cd drive and load fdisk this will allow you to delete the NTFS partition then you can install windows by rebooting the pc and createing the partition at the correct point during setup
I will try and hunt my windows 95 cd down and confirm the steps you need to do.0 -
Hi there, its not straightforward to downgrade. You'd ideally need to buy another hard drive and install it on there. If however you don't want the files contained within your XP drive you could simply do a complete format. I'd recommend using a boot disc.0

I am not sure if you know this but Windows 95 has been discontinued for a very long time. It is not available for purchase anymore. You best bet would be to install Ubuntu Linux on old hardware and its Free. Hope that helps.0 -
i would first check if the hardware, sound, graphics, ect on the said pc would actually work running windows 95If you think nobody cares if you're alive, try missing a couple of payments.0

Windows 95 is not safe nor does it have a place in this world anymore, I will give you some professional advice - keep well clear of Windows 95.

I think also that Win95 has problems with a processor faster than 300mhz ish.Move along, nothing to see.0

Not a good idea, it's no longer supported, your PC will be at great risk online, it uses the FAT 32 filesystem that precludes files greater than 3.99 Gb, It has severe problems with anything greater than 768 Mb RAM, and as already pointed out by codheadling modern graphics cards and sound may not work due to a lack of legacy drivers. If you must vape XP why not try Ubuntu even the biggest Microsoft fanatic would admit it would be better than Win 95/8. Mind you I do have a DOS 5 boot disk....... I wonder ... shall I try it? oh for the black screen with the C:\ and batch file menus0

Thanks for the replys
The reason i need Windows 95 is for my other pc. The pc is not on the internet it's just for work. I have a A0 scanner for scanning in archtectural drawings but the software for the scanner will only run in 95 or 98 or so i've been told. Every time i try to install the software on the pc with Xp on it i just get error message.0
