slscarborough, just out of curiousity, what do you work count it as when you have to take the day off to look after poorly DS? (or have you booked holiday for it?)

Afraid I can't help on the sick leave in pregnancy front - it's a bone of contention (sp?) in our department because my boss wants to tell me off at any opportunity (I think she's jealous of the attention I'm getting with being pregnant). I'm going to check with my other colleague about the rules tomorrow so might be able to let you know then.

Thanks everyone for the baby moving info. I tried the pressing gentle thing and it feels like something is moving in there, but I just imagine that to be my organs!

Elle all parents are entitled to 2 weeks per year Parental Leave unpaid for such circumstances

Yes, I know - actually, it's four weeks a year per child. But you can also take the day as emergency dependents leave - just wondered what reason other employers would use first particularly as you have to take parental leave in one week blocks (or if you just want one day it counts as one week out of your four) :)

It feels like little bubbles or butterflies or just like gas! But if it's happenening about the same time each day when you press gently, then it's your little one ;)

But with a disbaled child (in receipt of any rate of DLA) it's 16 (?) weeks and you can take 1 day at a time with no notice.

Not sure when it came in - I've been working a HR dept for nearly three years and I think it's always been the same in that time but then we don't talk about it much as we have quite a generous holiday entitlement, it's mostly blokes where I work and with parental leave being unpaid, we don't get a lot of requests for it.

    Proper info here :)

I'm an administrator at the minute although allowed to deal with "pointing people in the right direction" if it's standard info / about a statutory entitlement (we only get statutory maternity/paternity/parental leave as per the direct.gov site). We have three advisors (step up from me) too and they are the ones who give the official line on the company policies. Found out last week one of our advisors is going to be leaving six months after I get back from maternity leave (she's Australian and going back home when her visa runs out)... Don't know whether to make the push for her job or not :o Problem is, in our place, all the advisors are hated - don't know if I want to be one of "them"!!

ETA: Not looking for an answer to that last ramble, btw.. Just thinking out loud :) That said, they all have degrees and I'm not willing to get one (capable, probably, but not willing to study something for three years for a piece of paper) so that's the decision made for me! :)

  • Evening all - I am sat trying to get my head around a new contract and I can barely keep my eyes open... need to wake up and sort myself out.

Regarding finding out the sex - lots of people were saying to me that I was having a girl or they wanted me to have a girl. I knew in my heart of hearts that Bubba was a boy so I convinced hubby to find out to prevent 'disappointing people'.
Plus, I am absolutely carp with surprises :o

Our list of names seems to have increased to 11 :o we are pretty sure that 'THE NAME' is on there somewhere but we are both struggling to slim it down. It's such a tough decision!
