    Thanks twinkle x

Yes I was looking for a stir fry type noodle dish, I never know how to make the lovely sauces. I've been through my cookbooks this afternoon and think i've found what i'm looking for, i'll try it later in the week.

Query for you all: has anyone tried making their own seitan? We had it from a tin (sold as mock duck) and the OH loved it so I was interested in making it myself. All the recipes seem to call for vital wheat gluten which I have located online for not too much money but the shipping is pricey. Obviously buying a bulk load of gluten would making the shipping cost more worthwhile but since I've never made the stuff myself I'm somewhat reluctant to order 15kg of the stuff! Any opinions on seitan welcomed:D
Yes, I usually make the seitan cutlets from Veganomicon by Isa Chandra Moskowitz and Terry Hope Romero and love them- they make great burgers too. The chickpea cutlet recipe in that book is really good (and easy!)as well.

My local vegan group meet up on a regular basis and one of us takes orders from the group for bags of vital wheat gluten from flourbin, so we can split the cost of postage.:money:

Also can anyone recommend any books on the philosophy of veganism?

Have a look for Peter Singer books, such as animal liberation, eating, and the ethics of what we eat.
Also there are religious/spiritual books with the vegan slant.
I have bought them off amazon but think the vegan society have a selection too.

I haven't tried this particular recipe but this is a great site and the videos are funny.

I'd recommend The Vegan Sourcebook by Joanne Stepaniak(that's the book that made me decide to go vegan. ), or Vegan Freak by Bob and Jenna Torres.

  • Phew!

So.... I just (well, not *just* - it's taken me weeks and weeks!) read through the whoooole thread. It was really interesting, and very informative! :T I have a notebook full of notes, and I am hoping to become at least 75% vegan eventually... Though I have a feeling this will take me a while!

I bought some oat milk the other day (I was feeling brave!) and when I opened it to try it, it was very very pale, with bits floating in it... It tasted yucky, and after I put it back in the fridge, it exploded!!!!
Please tell me that this isn't what all non-dairly milks are like?! As this is going to be the hardest thing for me to get used to I think... Can anyone reccomend a better brand, or tell me if perhaps there was something wrong with the oat milk I tried? I think it was 'Oatly' but I'm not sure...

Anyway, hopefully I'll be popping in more often now I'm up to date with the thread

Sunshinesheli personally I only really like the chocolate Oatly. The normal Oatly isn't all that nice I find but I don't know why it exploded :rotfl:, that's never happened to me. I find oat supreme a lot nicer as it's rather 'creamy' as I think oatly is a bit 'grainy' if you know what I mean . You might want to try the rice milks. There is a Rice Dream brand that has hazel nuts and almonds which my partner loves (he is a difficult to please omni). He also loves So Good chocolate soya milk.
I am a vegan woman. My OH is a lovely omni guy :D

Thanks Doom and Gloom, I will try oat supreme - I've not seem it the supermarket, I presume it can be found at H+B?

Also, can anyone tell me what a good, well stocked vegan storecupboard would look like?! As I run out of the things I have, I want to start buying more useful vegan stuff, but I don't really know the best things to get? Thankyou!!

Had a very interesting lunch today: sesame bagel with marks and spencer butternut chilli dip used as a spread, vegan margerine, rocket salad and marks and spencer tomato salsa potato bakes with linseeds and poppy seeds....very nice.
