Frogga it's a difficult one, could you call your aunt and say thats lovely but either
Could I please have them with a) b) or c)
or
dont worry about cooking them, I'll sort them out when I get there
Sorry Im tired and thats all I could think of, make a point of saying how nice it is that shes made an effort too
I heard that the people that put on the Brighton Vegan fair lost a lot of money as not enough people turned up. Little surprise when local news done a piece about it over Easter, a month late :mad:Real stupidity beats artificial intelligence every time.

Hey frogga I’d say that if you are visiting family who think that veganism is childish then you should state that by being vegan you have taken the realistic view on what is going on in the world and trying to be responsible in your choices. Personally I think it‘s childish to think that other people will take the responsibility for your actions as an individual as eating meat impacts the environment so much that I do believe it‘s irresponsible. The view that they have of it being unhealthy to be vegan is one I have come across all to much and if you want to I’d print out information about how healthy it can be as well as the medical benefits including but not limited to lower body mass, higher amounts of anti oxidants, higher amounts of many vitamins, overall higher levels of folate and the less likelyhood of certain cancers and type two diabetes. All in all you are doing nothing wrong and I’m sure you are trying to consume a healthy balanced and varied vegan diet.
I would really just take my own food with me in your position. If they get offended then it’s not your fault, you should not be made to feel guilty for your choice to be vegan. Say that you didn’t want to put them out as many people find it hard to cater for vegans (no idea why as how hard is it to just use fruit, vegetables, grains etc??).
I have noticed how people take it as a personal insult also but I’ve found that usually it’s due to them knowing deep down that eating meat isn’t a responsible thing to be doing and due to societies norms and not wanting to be different have carried on eating meat. There are many other reasons but I have found that when they take it personally this is the main reason. You have to try and insist that they can still eat meat if THEY want to but that personally you want nothing to do with it. Try and help them lower their intake of meat etc if you want to but don’t be pushy if you try this. Best way is to make something tasty and if they like it say how it’s made as with enough of these kind of meals etc they will reduce their intake of non vegan items without noticing hehe.I am a vegan woman. HI D&G and Suep
,
Thanks for your ideas. I think you hit the nail on the head D&G! The trouble is that I hate it when people don't like something I've done, or am doing. I feel the constant need for approval in everythng I do, odd I know. I can see them now raising their eyebrows at me.
I have been a veggie for over 30 years, since I was about 4 or 5 and realised what meat was and how it got there. A 5 year old in a family of meat eaters was not easy. However in the last year or so I have been far stricter and gone completely Vegan and it's that which is a step too far for them  I haven't had milk in my tea for about 20 years but they ALWAYS put milk in and make a fuss when I say "oh no milk please". "Oooo you have it black? Oooo yuck!"
I guess I've just been bought up to be too polite to my elders as I really struggle to say what I think to them. I want to say all the things that you wrote D&G but I know they will take it as a personal insult. They are all very large people and they try and fill my Tadpoles full of cake and chocolate, and when I say, "oh no that's enough thanks" they take offence. They have butter on everything, maderia cake for example, and when I say "oh no thanks too much butter isn't good for us" they raise their eyebrows and say "well, we're all fit and healthy" (and 5 st over weight)
I guess at the end of the day, I know I'm right being a Vegan, and if they don't like it, it's their problem. I'll have to keep in my head that I'm happy and healthy and gem up on all the nutritional facts as I just KNOW I'll get the B12/Omega 3 questionsSay it once, say it loud ~ I'm an Atheist, Anti-Royalist, Socialist, Tea-Total Veggie Frog and PROUD!:D

I looked at Lakeland and the vanilla extract is around £5 and the almond extract which is also used a lot is around £8, its a lot of money isnt it ? So Ive searched the net and found this site
www.supercookonline.co.uk they sell the little bottles for £1.45 which are fine for me, Im not going to be baking cupcakes that often. Now I cant wait for it all to arrive so I can get baking :j
I use the Lakeland vanilla - it may seem expensive, but it's a huge bottle, and very concentrated, so much better value IMHOIt tastes delicious, too.

Some information about vitalite for you

http://www.vegansociety.com/newsroom/index.php?/archives/36-Vitalite-is-not-registered-with-The-Vegan-Society.html
According to this the vegan society do not endorse this product incase you have seen this product with the logo on it. I am unsure if it now vegan however due to all the drama so I'd b very cautious about buying it if I were you. It may be vegan but there is a good chance it isn't.I am a vegan woman. I'm not vegan these days
I have even eaten fish.
I am mostly vegan though.
I limit my use of dairy and fish and I still don't use things tested on animals.
Have an appointment at the doctors tomorrow... think it is serious (unrelated to being vegan).
I think being vegan is a huge commitment and maybe one day I will be ready for it but I think when I starts to make every day a struggle for me it's not right.
Maybe one day when my health is better I might feel ready to commit 100% I'll still be sticking around though if you don't mind?
As there is lots of useful things here and i am vegan 75% of the time.I'm an MSE SLACKER!!!! Slap my bum.

Sorry to hear you are not well at the moment kim-ley, I hope things are not as bad as you may think, will keep my fingers crossed for you.
I think that you are doing fantastically well to be vegan even 75% of the time, if even 50% of the country was 75% vegan that would be pretty damned good IMO.

I just found this thread - brilliant!
Hi to you all.
I am vegan and my family is veggie.
Interesting thread!0 -
Hi Kimley, I hope your ok and it's not too serious. I can quite understand why your not a vegan now when you have other things to concentrate on. Let us know how you are.
Im still vegan, the only time Ive found it difficult is when I eat out, but even thats getting easier. On a wednesday I meet some friends for lunch at a garden centre restuarant, they dont do anything vegan so Ive been eating plain jacket spuds which are ok but pretty boring. This week I had a chat with one of the waitresses and told her I was vegan and she brought me out a jacket spud covered in baked beans
Ive also just heard from my MIL that shes checked at the restaurant where we are having a meal next weekend to celebrate d/hs aunts 80th she said they will cook me a vegan meal :j I thought I was going to have to miss out.Real stupidity beats artificial intelligence every time.
