Going vegan......old style?!

apart from tofu (which I buy when I'm in the health food shop and freeze - silken, flavoured, the lot, it all freezes fine)
The texture changes when it's frozen though, so you wouldn't be able to make yummy cheesecake type puddings from frozen silken tofu I wouldn't have thought. (Must get some biccies and make one this week!)0 -

I'm trying not to eat puddings... or cakes... or chocolate... or sweets...

Hi all,
The sainsburys washing up liquid i spoke of yesterday are:
Lavender & orange
Rosemary & basil
and they are 96p each
I thought i'd check again as i was in there and then decided i'd buy the lavender one anyway, despite having lots of washing up already!
I have to report that it smells like bubble bath and I was tempted to go and have a bubble bath after washing up. But came on here instead...
I also went in home bargains and noticed they did a vegan tea tree shampoo designed for children to prevent headlice. Its by a company called Lanes. The shampoo said no animal testing or animal ingredients. The conditioner however just said no animal testing so i assume its not vegan, as is often the case with conditioners. Definately more shampoos than conditioners about.
I also went in superdrugs today and found lots of vegan items and some were in the sale. I will type a list up and post later, probably tomorrow, as i'm watching railway walks and grow your own drugs later. Off to update my blog now.
Bye for now
Sandra

Aaah, but vegan 'cheesecakes' are not as fattening so you don't feel as guilty eating them (well, that's my excuse anyway:rotfl:)0 -

Hello! I've obiously changed my diet relatively recently and I have to admit my budet has gone up. But, I do have to qualify that this it wasn't nearly as much as I thought and its definitely going down again now I'm more used to my new diet. I think the budget leaps were due to experimentation (I HAD to try nutritional yeast, tempeh, tofu, tahini, vegan chocolate spread, all the milks, all the fake cheeses etc etc).
Now I'm much more sure of what I like and don't like my budget is pretty much returning to normal. The only continuing pressure money-wise is that along with the veganism has come a desire to be generally more ethical and more health-conscious so more stuff is organic, I'm shopping more from my local health shops and less from the supermarket and I'm buying about 5 times more fruit and veg (and not arranging it in the fruit bowl to rot elegantly but actually eating it:rotfl:). This is the sort of small price rise I'm happy to accept and can alter my budget to fit accordingly.
Hope that helped.0 -

I discovered whilst in superdrugs the other day that a lot of there products are vegan and they are not listed in the animal free shopper or on superdrug site, so some of you may not know about them. Basically pick up any superdrug brand and read the back. If its vegan, it will say suitable for vegetarians and vegans. These are what i managed to scribble down before i had to leave as they were closing.

I had this problem until recently. I think it was because I was using the short, economy wash which I don't think is efficient enough - my DD1's tops can get a bit whiffy! I have now gone back to the long washes, and I have started to make my own 'laundry gloop' which costs pennies. I did manage to get the whiff out of the shirts by sprinkling on bicarb, then pouring on a bit of vinegar so it fizzed up, then put it in the wash. I also pre-treat stains by wetting them, then rubbing with a bar of soap.
thanks for this advice.
I did try the green force yesterday at a 40 degree was and it was ok, but not 100%. Hopefully the simply washing tabs will come soon and i can try it on next weeks football wases and see if there is a better of the two.
