I was in town with my Mum today and decided to go into Montezumas to check out their vegan chocolate, I've never been inside before as it looks expensive. Well it is quite expensive, but the chocolates all handmade and some of them are labelled vegan so I thought Id try a small bar, just in the name of research of course ;) I brought the Orangutang bar which is dark chocolate with a hint of orange. I have to say it is the nicest chocolate I have ever had, even better than the dairy stuff, for a treat it is worth every penny .
Last week I was on the animal aid website and noticed they do a free vegan cook book so I ordered it, has lots of vegan info in it and a few recipes, but being the chocoholic that I am I decided to try the chocolate orange cake as I had all the ingrediants already. It's turned out fab and is again really really gorgeous, you wouldnt know its vegan. So its well worth ordering the book, but if anyone just wants the recipe I will post it.
So I am having a lovely chocoholic evening tonight :EasterBun

I was e-mailed a list of recipes from the Vegan Society and have made a few things off there. The moussaka was very nice, although instead of aubergines I used courgette and potato (which I par-boiled first - we don't like aubergine in our house).

Could you possabily post or email me the recipe for the moussaka. I love moussaka and miss it dreadfully .

For anyone who is intereasted in goodness direct or other vegan sites .If you subscribe to whyorganic's newsletter they often post discounts for companies that sell vegan items, including goodness direct ( at the moment their is 10% off goodness direct ).
They also list vegan wine sellers .

hmmmm i ordered the book too but didn't get mine :( if you love chocolate then you should try green and blacks. I love them... though it does depend how strict you are as it says may contain traces of milk but this is due to being made one the same line as other milk products... the equivalent of going to a restaurant that put your food on a plate that before it was washed up had a steak on it!!!!

I'll try and do it tomorrow if I can get on the computer. I've just managed to squeeze on for a couple of minutes now while DH is out taking DD1 to a party! It's worth asking the Vegan Society to e-mail you the recipes though as there are quite a few and the ones I've tried so far have been really tasty.

Incase you haven't found these yet, dutch fruit loafs (cake) are usually vegan. There are a couple of brands about that I know of. There is one called Mrs Crimbles (sold in holland and barrett and online) that costs about £2.20-£2.50. There is also one sold in home bargains for 89p a loaf! This one comes in fruit or apple and raisin.
I personally don't like them, but my dad does.

I noticed today Sainsburys do fruity and herbal fragranced washing up liquid that says suitable for vegans. One of the fragrances was lavender. There was two sorts in my small local branch, but there may be more in the range. Says on the back clearly suitable for vegetarians and vegans. They were about 98p each.

Don't like washing up at the best of times, so maybe if I go fruity I might enjoy it more!!

Have ordered the simply washing powder as recommended on this thread and bought some green force biological powder whilst out today. I have a problem getting my hubbies football clothes sweat free, so will try these two and see how i get on. Have tried asda eco and bio-d and these haven't worked - the clothes looked clean, but still smelled, so I have got these two biological ones to try. Will use non bio for all other washing.

Has any one else got this problem and solved it with a vegan washing power or laudry liquid? I used to use ecover, but since giving that up know its not vegan, I am trying lots of different products to see which work.

Also incase anyone is interested 'Miracle acdo soft and gentle non-bio laundy power' is vegan. The only vegan one that is in the acdo range. Has the vegetarian society symbol on the packaging.

    thanks in advance

I had this problem until recently. I think it was because I was using the short, economy wash which I don't think is efficient enough - my DD1's tops can get a bit whiffy! I have now gone back to the long washes, and I have started to make my own 'laundry gloop' which costs pennies. I did manage to get the whiff out of the shirts by sprinkling on bicarb, then pouring on a bit of vinegar so it fizzed up, then put it in the wash. I also pre-treat stains by wetting them, then rubbing with a bar of soap.
