Make sure you only get the vegan ones though... tuscan bean thai coconut and pea and brocolli arent vegan :( and damn they are pricey!

They're on offer in Sainsburys at the moment, and TBH if it means I eat properly after a 15 hour day, it's worth it. If I haven't planned on being out that long and don't have anything defrosted they're ideal.

... and as I'm not actually vegan, just mostly eat as if I was, I guess I'll be OK, although interestingly those are the ones I haven't tried, so obviously I'm naturally leaning towards vegan foods even with those!
  • I have a question about TVP (soya mince). It sounds a great idea as a meat replacement but have noticed when I've eaten it, I get a bad stomach and gas the next day. Does this tell me its a highly processed unnatural food? It also doesnt look that appealing dried, a bit like breadcrumbs. Should I stick to natural protein sources if I'm to stay veggie? Such as lentils?

I don't think these are too bad but they are processed. The bloating may be due to the fact that TVP is made from soya beans which being beans do what they do...:rotfl: Also, you need to make sure you cook it for long enough as it absorbs water as it cooks and expands loads. If you don't cook it enough then it will carry on expanding in your stomach:eek:

Last night I cooked nut roast, potatoes, carrots and broc for our tea.

Snap! Except our nut roast was one from another meal - one usually does us for two meals.

I am very pleased to report that I've been vegan for a week now and I've lost 6.5lbs. A very very very nice side effect. I've been yoyo dieting for years and years and am a good 4 stone overweight at least so I'm not only saving the fluffy little animals I'm saving myself

Blimey you're lucky! I've been vegan for years, and veggie for years before that and still struggle to lose weight

When veggie I pretty much lived on cheese and chocolate so I suppose cutting them out by turning vegan was going to have an impact. No more chips and cheese for me instead of proper food  I'd imagine the weight will stop dropping off once my body gets over the shock of being deprived of dominos pizza and chocolate cake twice a week (it's helping my wallet out no end too).

    Thanks a lot.

I see myself as a kind of vegan mentor. I will check out the shops soon and see if i can find any more bargains to list for you. I haven't checked for a while for toiletries as i am so stocked up with previous bargains!

If anyone lives near a waremart (yorkshire and humberside only) they do 6 x 80g plain chocolate for £1, at least they have them in the Doncaster store and have for months and when they get past there date they sell them for 10p. I've had 50 bars so far, everyone had homemade chocolate treats for christmas using 10p bars!!
Also if anyone lives in Doncaster, there is a stall on the market that is selling 24 x chocolate seseme bars (usually 29p each) for £1, end of Feb date. If there is any Doncaster people, just let me know and i will provide more details. The stall also has apple crips 10 for £1 and ginger parkin and muffins also.

I'm just making raspberry N kumquat sorbet... a great alternative for icecream.
I dont have an icecream maker so ill let you know how it turns out!

For tasty jacket potatoes... lightly cover with olive oil then put a light spreading of marmite on the skin with more on top sprinkle with sea salt and cracked black pepper put it in the oven full wack till the skin is crispy and the inside is fluffy! yum.
