Hmm......well...I've just been doing some catching-up on this thread.
Its certainly extremely informative and anyone who knows me that well can guess what my next words are likely to be at this point:
BLOG PLEASE!:D
Me - I'm hoping that twinkle_star might just fancy that thought;). If so - the homepage to get started on Blogger is:
http://www.blogger.com/start
and 'tis easy enough that even a techno-illiterate like me has been able to manage it...nudge...hint....wink:D
Thanks for the nudge Ceridwen. I wasn't really sure what I'd put on a blog but I have been thinking about it for a while now. And, yesterday my OH and one of the housemates (I live with my OH and two others, both boys, in a shared house) suggested that I keep a blog of all the cooking, gardening and making things we all do which I thought might be fun. The boys have started making beer and cider and they spend their days fixing up guitars and playing with power tools:rolleyes:. My OH and I attempt to grow vegetables and I cook so maybe it might be worth chronicling it. (Just realised we all sound like we're in a mad commune :rotfl:). We started taking some pics yesterday so I'll keep you posted if it actually comes to fruition.0 -
I know this might sound daft but I am a new vegan and am wondering if hot cross buns are safe to eat as OH has left a pack in the kitchen and they are a favourite of mine.I am a vegan woman. My OH is a lovely omni guy0

Hot cross buns are often made with eggs (either in the dough, or the glaze), so you will need to look for vegan ones to be certain.0

suep i have the same problem my o/h doesn't eat meat but only because he doesn't like it not and he wishes he did?!?! When I announced I was going to be veggie then vegan - and so were my kids the response I got from him his family and my family was not a good one!!!! I have got him around to the idea that they will definitely be veggie (even though I know they will definitely be vegan until they are old enough to decide for themselves). He thinks that it should be their choice but I cant get him to see that it can be their choice to eat meat etc and not their choice not to!!! He seems to think that they will miss out on something and he also thinks that they wont fit in the same at school because of it? As for the in-laws I regularly have them over for dinner but haven't for a while when I announced that if they come to my house I will only be cooking vegan food they were not happy. I don't think they will come again?!? but if it was a religious reason why I couldn't cook meat and the like I have the feeling that for some reason it would be more acceptable to them
His mum also on Christmas day before that said that if/when we had children that we wouldn’t raise them vegan would we?! Not in those words though. Not only is it not her choice but mine and my partners but the way she said it was all I needed to know what she thought of what I was doing! She has no respect for it and is ignorant to the reasons and how well people can function/live this kind of life. I tried to explain for 3 years nearly before that why I was vegan, the way that it can be extremely healthy for every transition of human growth etc but obviously they took no notice. Some people just won’t listen and I get that but to be attacked by them like that through the day was more than I could take.
If/when I do have children they will be vegan as a child should not eat something that they can not comprehend where it came from. Vegetables, fruit, grains etc. are easy as they come from the ground, trees, bushes etc. but how can they comprehend where animal products come from and the manner in which they do so until they are older? They can not, it‘s that simple. When they can understand it all and if they wish to eat it and could kill the animals or what ever is needed as well then that is their choice. Before then I think it is rather sick as they have no idea.I am a vegan woman. My OH is a lovely omni guy0 -
Hi,
Just a quicky post, as it have noticed a couple of things posted that are not all vegan. If you can amend your posts that may make it easier for new vegans, thanks a lot
Ecover hasn't been vegan for the last year or two. Hopefully they will give up the animal testing and we will see the vegan logo again sometime soon.

Simple are mostly vegan not all. There is about 4 things that aren't they are listed on there web site, soap, zinc baby cream, i think a hair conditioner or two. I look for the wording 'contains no animal deprived ingredients' then i know they are vegan.

Hope this helps.

I nearly forgot to add, I use www.greenpeople.co.uk for some toiletries/face creams etc their products are really good, not very cheap but they do last a long time and have no nasty chemicals in.
Most are as they tend to be sweet bread with fruit and spices, I think some say may contain traces of milk though. I eat co-op ones! Yum!0 -

My dad always teases me and say's when veggies come round for dinner everyone goes out of their way to make lovely veggie food for them, when meat eaters go to a veggies house they gon't go out of their way to cook us a steak! He thinks he's hilarious so I giggle anyway!0 -

I was just coming back on here to say that Oh came back from visiting his Nan with a pack of hot cross buns from M&S, there is a list of ingredients and it doesnt mention milk or eggsthe list is wheatflour.sultanas.currants.sugar. orange and lemon peel.Dried wheat gluten.Invert sugar syrup.Yeast.Emulsifier.E471,E472.Salt.Potato dextrin.vegetable oil.spices.natural flavouring.flour treatment agent.Ascorbic acid.
Im not sure on the E numbers as I remember somewhere someone posted a list of ones to avoid ( or I might have read it on a vegan site) So what do you think ?Real stupidity beats artificial intelligence every time.

Sorry my post was unclear, I wasn't saying ecover was vegan but saying that I use it anyway as I have a big tub to use up, and would rather not waste it. It is ridiculous that they changed it though- especially when so overpriced!0 -
