once you singed the contract you're bound by it. If you could just walk away whenever you like no businesses could work.
It sounds so righteous, but in my case, it was Vodafone disconnected my line then charged for cancellation fee. Stay the hell away from Voda-evil.
    Vodafone sucks.

My 2p worth...I have a Blackberry on Voda, and was paying £50 odd quid a month. I phoned them recently and told them I'd been laid off and couldn't afford this tariff any more. (I have 12 months left of my contract)

First guy I spoke to basically said 'tough luck' so I phoned again, and said either they help me to stay with them, or I'll stop the DD and get a PAYG phone with another provider. They couldn't have been more helpful and put me on a new tariff which is half the price of the original. so it seems there are ways to cut the cost, but if you wanted to cancel completely, you would be liable for the remainder of contract cost

Would agree with that, I have done this in the past with o2.

Although you cant cancel (without paying the "buy-out" termination fee) you can however change/downgrade packages - I found o2 and 3 very helpful in that respect, but o2 said I could only do it once.
