Best way to get out of vodafone contract?
Hello,
I currently have a vodafone contract until May 2010 (unfortunately!)
I am tempted with an Iphone on O2.
I am guessing the only way to do this other than have to pay the contract in full to release it, is to try and get them to put me on the lowest tarrif and then just pay that monthly. I think this is 15 pounds, someone tells me though they won't let you reduce it in one hit. It has to be done in steps down, so from 30 to 25 then 25 to 20 and so on.
Is this right?
Has anyone any other ideas?
Many thanks
Anne

I know it's no help but I would also like to know this, only have until August left fortunatley, but thats still 6 months I don't want to be paying £240 for! (£40 pcm)0

I'm in the same situation. I signed up for internet from them and now they are trying to charge me for going over the download limit which I'm sure I did not, an extra £15 this month. The same happened last month. My hours at work are about to be cut and I can't afford to pay double what I signed up for. I since found much better deals with Orange and o2 but I would have to pay Vodafone up to 2010 when my contract ends. Looks like we are screwed....0

sorry guys but there isnt just a simple get out clause just cus you feel like it, a contract is a contract an its there to protect the buyer an the seller. on the sellers part it ensures that they get a set amount of money for a set period of time
in signin this you agree to pay the amount over a period of time an if you want to cancell early that amount is still payable
morale of the story: if there is any chance your circumstances will change an you cant pay dont sign...
i no its sounds harsh but reality is0 -

How can anyone possibly no there circumstances are going to change ? they dont , things come outta no where sumtimesBetter to understand a little than to misunderstand a lot.0 -
My timetable changed for university. There are supposed to be no classes on Wednesday afternoon for sports pratice but now there are so I spoke to my manager and now I have to take a cut in my hours at work. I can't afford to pay them double the price that was agreed in the contract. My point is that there is a difference between £30 and £15 a month. I want to get out of my contract because they are trying to charge me for something i did not do!0

As soul619 says above, once you singed the contract you're bound by it. If you could just walk away whenever you like no businesses could work.
lorena, is there a breakdown of the net access on your bill?0 -
No, the bill only states that I have been charged an extra £15 for usage charges but when I phoned them they said I had gone over the limit and I hadn't because there is a monitor on my laptop so I can make sure I don't go over the limit which I am very careful about0

That's why they have pay monthly (30 day contract) sims that are good value.
If people want to sell their soul for the latest high tech phone, then they can expect to be paying £30+ for the next 18-24 months. Simple as that :rolleyes:0 -
What has been stated previously is correct, you can't get out of this. Mobile phone contracts are horrendous, full of small-print and it is so easy to go over your minutes, and then get charged extortionate rates for each minute. With PAYG tarriffs like 02's-top up £15 per month, get free calls/texts to all 02 users, and you still have your £15 to use for other networks. Vodafone will definately only let you move down one tarrif per month, so it might be worthwhile getting a cheap PAYG phone, and using a deal like the 02 one, whilst simultaneously moving down tarriff month after month, and keeping a VERY close eye on what you are using your contract phone for. Then cancel your contract at the earliest availiable oppurtunity. This is what I did. With love, POSR0

My 2p worth...I have a Blackberry on Voda, and was paying £50 odd quid a month. I phoned them recently and told them I'd been laid off and couldn't afford this tariff any more. (I have 12 months left of my contract)
First guy I spoke to basically said 'tough luck' so I phoned again, and said either they help me to stay with them, or I'll stop the DD and get a PAYG phone with another provider. They couldn't have been more helpful and put me on a new tariff which is half the price of the original. so it seems there are ways to cut the cost, but if you wanted to cancel completely, you would be liable for the remainder of contract cost0
