I have always found the "expensive" mascaras to be the worst - I found rubie & mille and Benefit "bad gal" lash (or something like that) are awful for clumps. I only use Boots No7 waterproof now, it's the only one that seems to last for months and doesn't have that annoying gloopy phase when it is brand new.

I agree, the more I spend on a mascara, the quicker it goes awful!
Best one I've found is a cheapy one called miss sporty. Rimmel did a lovely one years ago in a silver tube, can't find it for toffee now though.
If my typing is pants or I seem partcuarly blunt, please excuse me, it physically hurts to type. :wall: If I seem a bit random and don't make a lot of sense, it may have something to do with the voice recognition software that I'm using!

I don't think I will ever get over the demise of Lancome's Keracils mascara. Just had to thrown mine out after 5 years plus as it had dried up! Only used it for special occasions and, having tried cheap and expensive alternatives over the years, I have never found a suitable replacement.

I've found YSL to dry up very quickly and won't be purchasing that again.

Krasnoludek - Is that the new EL with the blue striped casing?

Anyway, just thought people would like to know I purchased Asda's Smartprice mascara yesterday for a whopping £1!!!!!!. My thoughts being if it is c*rap I will take it back and get a refund next time I go to Asda.

    But it is brilliant.

I would advise people to give it a go. The mascara went on very easy. The brush is small and easy to use and, considering what I've spent in pursuit of a replacement over the years for my beloved Keracils, Asda's smartprice beats the expensive ones hands down.

It's not waterproof though. But for the money it's worth every penny.
Think I'll give that a go!

My latest Maybelline one (usually buy the same) has gone clumpy - and it never does this normally, its only just over a week old - may try the hot water and/or damp the brush as advised earlier.

And I'll try the Asda one too!

I've got round this problem by having my eyelashes dyed regularly. It doesn't seem cheap to begin with, but I was fed up with wasting money on mascara that dried up/went clumpy. It looks great for about 6 weeks, and I have it done at the end of my leg waxing appointment as a bit of relaxation ;)

For emergencies (i.e. when I forget to book an appointement!), I have a Dr. Hauschka mascara which I'm very happy with.

Trouble with having them dyed (which I do esp for holidays) is that only colours what you have got - and I haven't got much.
I now use (for special occasions) false eyelashes ... Naturalites they are called , to add volume.

The YSL mascara does that after about 6 weeks, its annoying as its not cheap but its the best mascara there is imho. This is a long shot but it could be happening because the mascara is cold. Its wax based so the colder it is the harder and clumpier it gets. I always find it I rub the tube in between my hands or blow the hair dryer on it it sorts out the clumps and it goes on much better.

See this video by my fave MUA for inspiration and a more technical explanation http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=yIaPxnuiCWM&feature=channel_page

Thanks for that info! Never thought about heating it up first! Must try this. :rotfl:
  • I bought the Max Factor false lash one from Boots today, had a go in the store and seems quite good but I am already a fan of the 2000 calorie.

Was on offer at 7 quid instead of 10.50 so cant moan really, will post and let you know if it dries up lol
