The Mascara problem

For some reason, my mascaras are going clumpy even when they haven't been open long.

I have an Urban Decay "Big Fatty" mascara which has only been opened a couple of weeks. I tried to use it today & as I pulled the wand out, loads of mascara was attatched to it and I couldn't scrape it off. I'm so not happy, the same thing happened to a YSL & an Estee Lauder mascara.

What can I do to avoid it happening?

The only reason I can see for that to happen is that they have been left exposed to the air , or not shut tightly enough when closing...

  • Maybe, but certainly not the case with YSL one.

The YSL mascara does that after about 6 weeks, its annoying as its not cheap but its the best mascara there is imho. This is a long shot but it could be happening because the mascara is cold. Its wax based so the colder it is the harder and clumpier it gets. I always find it I rub the tube in between my hands or blow the hair dryer on it it sorts out the clumps and it goes on much better.

  • The mascara isn't dry. It goes very thick and over coats the wand, this makes it very hard to scrape off back into the tube, so the wand becomes that loaded with mascara, it is unusable.

I think some brands of mascara just do that.

Don't pump them in use, twist them & bend the wand a bit so they scrape the sides.

    Tighten them well after use.

You could try putting it in a mug of boiling water, to see if that loosens it up.

My house is too cold for mascara. I have to warm mine up *ahem* between my legs in the car on the way to work.

I dunk mine in hot water as well when they start to clag up and it makes them runny again. I've given up on buying expensive ones as I find No. 7 is just as good and you'll never get your eyes as good as adverts unless you use falsies anyway:rolleyes:

Boots No 7 360 degree mascara is my best ever. It's £11.50 but I got a few when it was free with a magazine, and use the £5 off vouchers they hand out.
