I think we're all a bit shocked at the injection of the Jersey fact. We've been jerseyed! :money:

Had I known that, my advice would be wider ranging ie you can continue avoidance/disclosure ie continue doing what you're doing now (defrauding benefit). This is quite possible as the money is offshore (outside UK tax control) and we can assume that's why you've not been found out.

Hmmmm. I reckon the OP want's a cut of that money and that's his business. All I can add is if a penny of any of that hits the UK shore going into anyone's UK bank you'll be open to being caught. Normally, I'd say it may be worth the chance if you're not worried but with the mess in the banks you'll not know actually if that £30,000 is being controlled by a UK bank in 2 weeks' time.

It's an odd way to live and if the UK authorities get a sniff of what you've been doing (and did) they'll visit upon your family the full force of the law.

I am making her close it and have said if she wants us to stay together she splits the money between my sons, her daughter and our baby. If she does not I will report her for fraud.

I know you said you were concerned about your "rather high up" father in the Police and the repercussions of your wife's money being found which you "didn't know about" and exposure through the press.

Makes me wonder what he'd think of his son resorting to fraud and blackmail?

I have to repeat what rosered1963 said. Hiding £ is one thing, hiding it 'abroad' is quite another. It begs the question - what else is she hiding.

I can't afford to have our HB stopped and paying back the overpaid benefit would clear most of the £30000.

Erm, if you come clean and admit to the concealment and then pay back the wrongly claimed HB using the 30k, you then won't have the 30k any more and thus will again be eligible for HB.

    Won't you?
    Trying to keep it simple...;)

It must be an awful situation to be in, however you have now discovered the capital and must report the matter asap. You can even do this anonomously.

Your wife knew fine rightly she was committing fraud and she alone will have to face the consequences whatever that may be. She should be made to repay every penny from the money she stashed away and severely reprimanded in court - so that others and her will be deterred from this in future.

Billions of our taxes are swallowed up each year through fraud acts such as this. If you think this money could go to education, health, transport etc and not greedy people.
