Can I cut back any more? (Bill £98)

Hello all,

We are currently with Telewaest with the foolwing options -

Broadband 4 meg
Supreme TV
Talk unlimited phone + line rental for 2 phones.

Ive just dropped the internet from 10meg to 4. The last bill was now around £85.

I plan to cut back on the TV package too - are there any deals I should be aware of before I phone up and hopefully get a better deal?

Thanks

Not being familiar with Telewest tariffs I would suggest you review your TV watching habits and work out if you would be happier on a less expensive TV package.

Re telephones consider ditching the second line rental and trying Voip on your broadband, with one of the free suppliers and a USB phone. I use Sippgate for incoming calls ( they provide you with a UK geographical number) and Voipcheap for outgoing calls.
And see posts on bartering to get a reduction on your current package.

    Only an idea:

But I would say from things I have learned from here and have started to see the rewards.

    Internet:
I am on Virgin Broadband Option 3 Internet, 3 gig is more than ample for my needs this is £14.99. Their are many options for Broadband shop around, but I would never personally pay over £15.00 top end.

    Telephone:
    BT Option 1
    Then set up these
    1899 for your peak 01/02 calls.(3p a call)
Primus Saver for FREE E&W calls to 01/02 numbers.
    18185 for mobile calls.(5p peak/evenings. 2p weekends) 4p connection.

As for TV, well myself most TV is repeats and trash and I have an active life so TV is my very last option.

But for a TV fan try this.
Freeview service, with a sky set up freesat, this gives you endless channels more than any saine human could watch. Works for us here.
Bought a good Sony Freeview Box and my neighbour sold his PACE sky set to me for £25.00.

Must admit though I use it all through my Hi-Fi for Digital Radio Stations more than TV.

So at the very most with this option you may pay not much more than

    £30.00 Per month.

  • Have read of the NTL thread where users have reduced their packages with great success by going armed with figures as to the alternatives they could have by moving from cable.

There are links to other threads from the first post.

    Hello All,
This is the first time i've posted so bear with me, received my monthly bill this morning and  , it was over £75, i immediatley sought out the best options through this wonderful site of course !! I'm addicted} and found i could reduce my internet charges from £17.99 to £12.49 with Tesco, unlimited access. rang Telewest and told them i wanted to change to Tesco, reduce my TV package from supreme to starter and look at getting my phone charges reduced, i saved £10 on TV package, couldnt budge them on my call charges as I'm already on free calls after 6pm and at weekends, but daughter of 12 wont stick to the rules and wait til 6pm to ring her friends! what do they find to talk about???? one call was for 72 minutes  , i was immediatley offered the same internet services for wait for it £9.99, a saving of £18 per month, £216 pounds a year, Thanks Martin
Add to that, changing my pet insurer, from £18.55 per month to £6.50,my car insurance from £31.50 to £14.75, my gas and elecrticity has been estimated to save me £439 per year, a massive saving of £1000 :j I'm not done yet, im on a roll :T

Just phoned them and downgraded my tv to essential and phone to evenings and weekends.

Could'nt get them to give me any offers. Did mention the 3 packages for £30 but the guy said the offer was only for potential new customers?!

    Anyway, saved a nice bit.

  • Well done to you both :T

Rich, it sometimes helps to say you will think about it and when you ring back they might make a better offer but then they might not and at least you have made some savings icon10.gif
