  • Yep. I'll have to. Why didn't I think of that??!

Have learnt my lesson though. Will only do the weekly shop online from now on. So much easier and safer.

Popping in - am taking part of challenge but have been busy and not posting. We're actually on track for this month - the aim of keeping the food part of the shop to £100 is working, probably cos it's an easy number. If it creeps up as I shop online, I put something back! In fact, because I don't include school lunches but have included stuff for next week's packed lunches at holiday club, I came in under budget with yesterday's order. I am finding that we run out of things, but unless it's urgent, I don't replace them - the meal with couscous last week ended up being served with a pilaf!
    Mortgage started on 22.5.09 : £129,600

  • Good morning all
Well stuff and nuts,I've just totted up the receipts from yesterday and shoved it all through the spending diary-£ 199.59:eek:(total for this month so far but not declaring)£19.59 over, although that does include 2 packs of pull-ups from Aldi and a potty;)
Reassuring that a few of you are over as well, nice to have company.
DD2 and DGS are coming today, hence the overspend AND it will grow before payday,as they are with us for the week.(Lovely to have them, DGS is 3,hence the potty. Both are gorgeous although hyperactive, told her 'what goes round comes round'!!!)
Strange how you bring 3 children up the same and they are all totally different, tho' thinking about it,perhaps they aren't really. All in stable happy relationships, working, lovely homes, always been able to fend for themselves. As you can tell I love them all to bits:o

Wonder if I can set up a visitors budget, that will make it look less and won't spoil my track record.
Should only need milk this week.Made barabrith and yogurt last night.Bread and hobnobs or flapjack and maybe pineapple upside down to make today.
Slow roast beef for lunch today, coleslaw salad and something for tea.
Leek and potato soup for lunch tomorrow, probably roast chicken, tho might cook that today,be one less job tomorrow.
Sack of potatoes and onions, loads of carrots, stuff in the freezer,so we won't starve!
Well better shift myself or the day will have gone.
Up to date with washing, beds sorted ,kitchen floor cleaned, house nearly DGS proof-wishful thinking as he's a climber and worked out how to open drawers to climb up on kitchen units.
Nearly forgot, had a very nice Valentine day, card and lovely flowers, bless him,he never forgets-well I assume it was DH,think I now recognise the ?:rotfl:

Catch up in the week, keep going you all seem to be doing OK

Been doing really well this month but had to pop to mrT's to get some bits n bobs and i'm now over budget. I'm not too fussed tho coz i got loads of bulk stuff bought, inc loads of baby wipes on offer that will last me ages. I have to make the most of every trip to big supermarkets as i dont drive so i can only go when my mum can take me. My closest shop is where i work but its only a s.field essentials and dont stock all the basic brands like the larger ones and some of there own brand stuff is quite pricey too (even with staffy d!) although i did manage to get loads of meat reduced:D . Still need blummin onions tho. Cant belive i forgot to buy them. I always forget something!
Anyhoo i've upped my budget. I usually spend between £100 and £150 a month and this month i wanted a lower spend but i always put £150 aside for gc just in case.

  • Morning all!
My Valentine's day was quite nice too - a card from the OH and then he cooked me a very nice sweet potato and chick pea curry with rice and naan (he's a meat eater so it was a big sacrifice for him!). We went old skool and had Artic Roll for afters! (On offer at £1 in Mr S). Forgot how nice it was - haven't had it since I was a kid for Sunday tea!
Also have enough Artic roll for dessert tonight and a big portion or 2 lunch portions of curry leftover that will save me cooking tea tomorrow.

Shopped at Mr S yesterday for a change and to use up the nectar points. Was pleasantly surprised as there were a few things that you just can't get at Mr T (for veggies) and stocked up a bit on some essentials that were on offer.
Managed to spend £42 - wanted to be more at the £30 mark but it did include a £5 steak for OH, enough bacon to last til the end of the month and some frozen bits and pieces for me.

Will update the sig in a minute but I am perilously close to target but ho hum - at least the freezer and the fridge look healthy!
  • hi everyone,
haven't been in touch for a while due to work and family pressure. Just never seem to find a minute to chat on computer. Well have roughly counted outgoings on food and at the moment sitting about £100 but that is including a large shop at Mr.A last week about £70. Seem to be going through food faster this week and also have topped up with a lot of organic produce. Still hopeful of staying within budget.
Re baby goods, got a great buy of a Johnson's baby box full of Johnson's products in Mr. A yesterday for £5. Grabbed a couple to keep for baby gifts for friends. Don't know if this offer will be country wide though.
It takes a long time to eat an elephant and I'm doing it a bite at a time!!!

Morning all am going to declare £45 for this week (havent kept all my reciepts but seems near enough the mark) needed marge yesterday which resulted in me spending about £30  not really sure how that happened. came home yesterday to find that DD (2) had eaten all the choc biscuits and most of the crisps so thats that i refuse to buy any more at all which i feel bad about because the other kids do have them in moderation but something needs to give somewhere (my dad had to buy her a size 22 pair of school trousers) she is 14 and has been using food for comfort(to replace her dads affections) she refuses to eat any veg or fruit and her eczma has really flared up again so i am thinking if there is no cr*p in the house she will in time reach for an apple or some fruit.
Will be having a NSD today x
  • Morning all, just popping in with my weekly update.

May have to have another look at how I split my spends. So far this month I have only spent £138.37 on food but £297.41 on my other spends
This means I'm way under on food but massively over on other stuff. If I want to stay under my £520 total I'll need to curb the extras. Just shows though that my food budget was always over because I included other stuff in it instead of breaking it up into separate pots.

Have to pop out to Boots shortly to get a present and some shampoo - and weigh in - so will try not to spend too much. Then going to Mr A for some fresh bits for the week. Must make a list instead of trying to guess ;)

    Catch you soon, K x

PS haven't had chance to catch up with all the posts so hope everyone is doing well.
    :xmastree:
    Merry Christmas
  • Did my second big shop of the month yesterday at Mr T, spent £118 but this is to do us until the end of the month. Still have about £30 left in my budget for incidentials and fresh milk/bread/fruit etc, although i still need to buy washing powder as i forgot yesterday!. Quite close to budget already so not sure if i'm going to make it this month within budget, but going to have a damn good try!!!

Got some bargains yesterday as i left it until 7pm before going, so freezer is jammed packed :D. Having some braised steak for tea tonite that was reduced half price, followed by chocolate Gateaux for £1, did toy with the idea of buying a Whole Salmon reduced from £15 to £7 but decided against it, kicking myself now, i could have froze it into individual fillets, oh well too late now!!!
