Hi all

Please can you have a look and let me know what you think.

We are 2 adults and 3 kids aged 9 years, 16 months & 3 months.

I do have a car, but at present is not on the road, due to needing work, but reluctant to pay for repairs at present, as feel that car may be taken, so don't see point of paying out for it IYSWIM - So that is why no petrol on SOA!

Benefits is broken down as £459pm for CTC, £186pm CB & £260pm HB.

Oldest Child has school dinners, which is included in other child related expense.

Also DH pays £100pm into company pension, that is deducted from Salary, so the above figure is after this has been taken - would the OR look to stop this?

Many Thanks for taking a look and any help is much appreciated!!

Have made some notes and hope this helps, is your OH going BR too? If so, he would need to mention his pension on the forms but that it is deducted at source. If he is not, then it does not need mentioned at all.

As the car is SORN, the OR will highly likely take it from you - by it being SORN you have shown it's not necessary (in their view, anyway).

JCS1 If the car is SORN then can they still put car expenses on their SOA??

    Don't think you can D
It can't be SORN and used at the same time. If it's SORN you're not paying road tax on it, so you can't claim for that, and if it isn't taxed you can't use it on the road, so you can't claim for petrol. The only thing you could still possibly claim for is insurance.
Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear
  • FYI - car is not SORN as still taxed, MOT and Insured, just not able to drive it as need new radiator and Shock Absorber!!!

This is why no petrol at present, but when it is on road, then I would normally only use about £10pw. To ferry DD to clubs and for me to go to baby clubs and visit family as they are not local to me.

So as car is not essential for me to you, It seems likely that the OR will want to take, and this is why we have not paid to have repaired.

    Hope that clears this one

    cheers

In that case, put the costs down as if you were using it and don't tell the OR is isn't working.

If you put nil for petrol the OR will assume you're able to get about without it and will most definitley take it.

  • Updated SOA with Petrol costs - Many Thanks x

Sorry about that:o . Does either of you work?. If so and you say you need the car for work,, then unless it's worth megga bucks, which from what you have said it isn't,you might well be able to keep it.Dx
