TV Aerial Cable

Hi Guys,

I've been told that getting a new TV aerial cable will improve the picture quality as we are having ome issues.

Someone mentioned a satellite grade cable would make a big difference.

Do you think this would be a goo buy/make any difference?

The biggest difference would be to make sure you have a decent aerial thats positioned correctly. THEN you can upgrade the cable

And yes, I have the same make as that which made a difference to mine (I had a 2 meter length)
The REAL difference to mine was when I fitted an IXOS aerial cable though (About 12 quid off ebay for a 2 meter length). Picture quality was quite an improvement

Well its the dearer version I have
But again, if your aerials not set up right then thats what you should be looking at first

The cable won't have any affect whatsoever on a Freeview (digital terrestrial) picture quality. In the limit, the picture will break up into coloured squares but, up till that point, there will be no picture quality deterioration.

This is called the "digital cliff" effect.

Youd better explain to me why mine cleared up and looks more 3 dimensional then

It's just your perception. You expect a change so you think you see one. This comment is typical. Obviously a 2 dimensional picture can't be three dimensional.

    hahaha

    Classic

    It looked MORE 3 dimensional
And if you think 2d pictures cant look 3d you should come see my Pioneer tv (Or my dads which is incredible)
    Technically its 'depth of field'

Look mate. I fully understand 'digital'cables and the cliff effect. And various 'tests' that have been done.

Ive also done my own tests (As have others), with various cables (mains, hdmi, phonos etc)

Im no !!!!!! when it comes to cables, so please dont treat me as one. If you wish to believe theres no difference thats fine.
Just dont bother me with it or tell me im wrong.

But you'll mislead other people into expecting an improvement that cable can't give. Next you'll be suggesting "gold-plated connectors". The cable between the aerial and the Freeview box will cause picture "breakup" and "artifacts" if it affects the signal adversely. It will never affect the Freeview picture quality because the Freeview receiver automatically rebuilds a perfect picture.

Now the RF OUTPUT cable carries an analogue signal so it CAN affect the picture quality.

    (bangs head against wall)

Please put a stop to this. Ive already said that YOU believe what you wish, IVE done MY OWN TESTS (As have thousands upon thousands of others)

What tests have you done concerning freeview aerial cables?

A lot depends on exactly what you are receiving, if it is analogue TV then then a degraded downlead from the aerial to the receiver can have a detrimental effect on the picture, for freeview or other digital receivers this is less of a problem (due to the error correction used), and if you have a good picture replacing the cable will not improve the picture (but signal strength may improve)

As to your question about satellite grade cable, YES it will work, has better screening and lower signal loss. What length of cable are you talking about?
At times any combination of my spelling, grammar or punctuation may be incorrect. Please do not pick me up for this as, after all, it is only an internet forum.
