Hi All
Quick question.
I live in a 3 bed townhouse, 2 bathrooms, Kitchen , Living room and Garage.
Property is 4 years old from new with all engery saving apliances.
2 adults and 2 children live at the property and 1 parrot.
All services are switched off which not being used and EVERYTHING is switch off at nighttime other than my childs nightlight, My heating is only ever on 20 and yet we have been paying this MONSTER bill for over 2 years now at a price of £233 a month thats £2796 a year for gas and electric.
Can someone let me know if that sounds a tad too high for a 3 bed new build(ish) semi?
Gas and Elec supplied by rip off merchants E.ON
Thanks All
Fiona
`m with Eon. I keep an eye on my bills and I know what I use and what I need to do if the amount I`m using is too much. Just had my latest bill and I`ve used on average 9.3 electric units and 93kwh per day gas. I know that I can make my gas cheaper by turning the thermostat down to less than the 23 degrees I have it in the evenings and I know that I can reduce it even further by reducing the hours it`s on for. My house is a 3 storey 2 bathroom 3 year old semi with all A rated appliances including the boiler.
Comparing it with last year when it wasn`t as cold, I have only used 3kwh per day more on the gas and slightly less on the electric. I only have the hot water on for 2 hours in the day instead of 4 hours a day last year. This is enough hot water and it is still hot enough to have a bath before I go to bed.
You haven`t said how many units they`ve charged you for this quarter and if you are paying off an outstanding balance. I pay £91 per month and have a debit balance of £123.26 and if I try and change the direct debit online it says I need to pay £85. For 07/08 I paid £796 for gas and electric.
Gas prices have really increased with all energy companies. I`m paying 3 times as much as I was paying in the 90`s.0 -

We're waiting for the next bill to see if it's accurate or not and if not we'll be switching again!
I don`t think the £43 a month was realistic for gas and electric to cover a winter quarter.
I always read my meters at least monthly and use their online facility to enter it. That way you should get a more realistic monthly DD figure.0 -
Hi all: I was with PowerGen for 2 months when Eon gobbled them up. Ok, I thought, should have gone to Scottish Power as I originally wanted to, but hang on and see.
I was paying DD £53 per month and at the winter periods paid two extra sums and cleared off any excess there was.
As I am all electric I am a high user.
In January, there was a short fall of £79, this I paid on the 22nd and on the 26th an amount of £97 was taken from my account without my knowledge or approval.
I contacted them as soon as I found out and requested the extra "bonus" they got to be returned.
I get an email saying that this will be done because I did not receive their letter. If a letter was sent, I will eat it. We have never had a lost item in the last 23 years.
Also they gave me a breakdown of what my consumption will cost at top prices (we all know they are coming down by about 10% in fact one company just did it).
They did admit to something or other (difficult to understand them) and said £97 was not correct, it should be £91 per month.
I did some sums and I totally disagree with this figure. I went directly to Scottish Power and signed up with them.
Now, my problem is, at the end of this month, Eon will be taking out a sum. Should I put a block on this? Should I allow the usual £53 or should I just write them telling them I will do a final settlement by cheque. The last thing we went is a cut in our power supply.
I would also like to report this, so your Consumer Direct number is helpful. Is there anyone else?
One last comment. If a DD customer is expected to have a surplus balance during summer months, then I think it is in good order that the company with which your money is deposited should pay a market interest on the "investment". I cannot help feeling that if enough customers are on DD and their balance is in the plus zone, this is a big financial gain for electric companies.
We are expected to pay for our usage, but no where does it say IN ADVANCE.
I am looking to writing to some authority bringing this to their attention. Any ideas where I can write to make someone take note of what is happening?
Thanks for listening, hope this has been clear.0 -

I would speak to E.ON and raise a consumption dispute, they will be able to go through what you use and identify where all your money is spent, they then will be able to offer further advice of how to lower you usage.
I always say speak to your supplier before running off elsewhere.0 -

They will look at your last 12 months of usage and forcast this forward up to your review date. They will then take your balance into account and come up with a figure that you need to pay between your last bill and your review. They will then divide this figure by the amount of payments they expect to recieve.0 -

You can settle your accounts seperatley and you can cancel your Direct Debit, however switches can take a while so just be aware that Eon will supply you until your switch date.
Also about the credit on accounts - Eon pay a minimum on 6% discount for haveing MOnthly DD setup, i am sorry but this is way more than my current account or my savings account. And would you really rather be in debt over winter, I know i wouldnt. What if something went wrong with my bank and my DD was cancelled, i would have to pay it all up front. NO thank you!0 -
I moved into my property feb 05...received a bill in July 06 for £1000 gas and elec. Then nothing until August 08 for again a whopping £1000 and then received a bill this week for £1578.00.
I have filed a complaint with the Energy Ombudsman but yet to hear as their customer service is crap, the whole management of accounts is crap and the managers of the company are ignorant and obnoxious.
I have not had the problems you have, the ombudsman will not look at your compaint unless you have followed Eons compalint handling procedure and it has gone on for a while or they have sent you a deadlock letter.
Just give it one more go, email E.on through their website, ask for your account to be investigated and if you dont get anywhere email directorofCustomerService@eonenergy.com these guys are like the best workers eon have, they will sort things out for you.:j0 -

You willing to pay 'market rate' interest on your account when you are in debt?
You get a discount for DD - is that not enough? Plenty of people on DD don't pay for their use in advance - for example, you said you were in debt to them and had to catch up, that's not paying in advance.
You use gas & ele all the time, but they only charge you once every three months, that's not in advance either.
How many customers on DD (or any other way of paying) are in the 'negative zone' d'you reckon?0 -

An 8.3% return from Atlantic, a 17.5% return from E-on, a flat £105 from nPower - you want those replaced by a far smaller market interest rate? Strange. And you want to pay interest in winter?0 -
