Overpriced Gas and Elec from EON

Hi All

Quick question.

I live in a 3 bed townhouse, 2 bathrooms, Kitchen , Living room and Garage.
Property is 4 years old from new with all engery saving apliances.
2 adults and 2 children live at the property and 1 parrot.
All services are switched off which not being used and EVERYTHING is switch off at nighttime other than my childs nightlight, My heating is only ever on 20 and yet we have been paying this MONSTER bill for over 2 years now at a price of £233 a month thats £2796 a year for gas and electric.

Can someone let me know if that sounds a tad too high for a 3 bed new build(ish) semi?

Gas and Elec supplied by rip off merchants E.ON

Thanks All
Fiona

Its very hard to tell if you are overpaying as you dont give details of your usage of gas and electricity.

You also dont mention the tariff you are on with Eon, but I've found them to be competitive on single fuel as long as you make sure you are on the best tariff.

    FWIW your bill seems high.
  • It does seem very high to me. I have a four-bedroom detached which until recently had no cavity wall insulation and minimum loft insulation and I've only ever paid around £1400 a year gas and electricity from E-on on their Online Extra Saver.

Which tariff are you on and what is your usage.

    Foreversummer
  • We're in a 9 year old 4 bed detached house and we're with Eon. When we joined them 6 months ago our combined gas & elec was £43 monthly and we were always in credit with them. They've recently upped this to £78  per month and we're not sure why

We're waiting for the next bill to see if it's accurate or not and if not we'll be switching again!
  • Its worth checking your meter against your bill.

There was something on watchdog recently about peoples bills being treble what they should as they were being billed in imperial when they had a metric meter (maybe it was the other way around) def worth a check that sounds far too high!

    Here you go anyway:

I can only assume that your 4 bed detached is in Spain!

£80 to £150 per month is quite realistic for 2008.

(10 year old 3 bed semi @ £80 per month with eon internet account).

No we're in Bedfordshire! Does £78 per month sound reasonable then? :o

    Hello All,

I have had problems with E-on ever since I moved into my house 3 years ago! I never receive regular bills nor do they read my meters.

I moved into my property feb 05...received a bill in July 06 for £1000 gas and elec. Then nothing until August 08 for again a whopping £1000 and then received a bill this week for £1578.00.

I have filed a complaint with the Energy Ombudsman but yet to hear as their customer service is crap, the whole management of accounts is crap and the managers of the company are ignorant and obnoxious.

I would not recommend this company to anybody and as soon as they will allow me to switch over I will be on my way!!
 Debts: Capitalone £0, Vanquis £220, LX Direct £1197, Mutual £1107, JD Williams £23

If they didn't send you a bill between July 06 - Aug 08 then they are at fault and are only allowed to back bill you for 12 months usage.
  • Hi peeps. Just had the Robbers bill in for fixed rate dual elec/gas. It's coming in at £41 per week, that's £175 per month, that's £1575 per year, assuming 6 months high use and 6 months half as much. Seems massive to me. I have an old house that cannot be cavity wall insulated - no cavity - but is double glazed all round.
Any suggestions to ease the pain please?

We're using a bit less than you in a similar house - mid terrace but a cold bathroom extension and no cavity walls. Only one double glazed window too. We have cut our bills by making a conscious effort to be more careful with electricity (airer instead of tumble drier, economy programmes on dishwasher and washing machine) but with six of us (four carbon fiends 15-23) we're never going to be as low as others. Gas wise, we have a new combi boiler but still average 26kwh daily summer and 110kwh daily average so far this winter. I keep turning the thermostat down a degree when it gets less cold - about to put it up again, it seems.
