Ordinary return tickets aren't sold for the route I wanted (I have never understood why!), so I booked two cheap day return tickets - one for the outward journey (Christmas eve) and one for the return journey (2nd Jan). The cheap day return ticket for this route is only slightly higher than the single ticket. With the discount applied to both tickets, the whole trip cost me almost 50% less.

I wouldn't worry about not being in the first 50 this is still working! ;D

does the 50% discount definitely get taken off before you enter your credit card details? I'm trying to buy a Saver Return to London but it shows the full amount when asking for my credit card details, I daren't enter it yet!

Should be showing the discount on the page that asks for your credit card details. The discount still seems to be working as I have just priced up some trips, it is such a good deal, getting the discount off the already discounted railcard fare, is awesome ;D

I tried a different destination, Oxford instead of London and the discount works! Silly system :P still can't get it to work for London :P

Try varying how you collect your tickets. It seemed to work when I put in to collect via ticket machine but not when collecting from ticket office.

Possibly because we were not one of the first 50 to book - see end of original poster's link???

The "50" refers to 50% - as in half price, not the number of tickets available!

Keep on booking - make sure you are booking a Saver, SuperSaver or Cheap Day Return ticket. This offer will not work on any single journeys, apex or value fares. But often 50% off a saver return will work out cheaper than these other deals!
