Premium number based co's are renowned for being fly-by-night. No credit card protection here. So what happens if these co's decide to do a runner?

Gosh! so how much can u theoretically 'lose' ?? maximum £1.50 !!!

& why the heck would they do a runner anyway?!

i realise that if u use your office or other phone (with permission of course!) by using this https://www.cheapestchat.com service u can charge ANY phone - your own mobile or your own homeline - with £1.50 and then call International at v.little cost !!

yep. (with permission-of course!!) at my office we have about 20 guys who dial the top-up number 0907 704 0123 and nominate the £1.50 credit to eirther their 3mobile OR homeline etc... & then make business (& family) calls for very cheap using the 020 8497 0123 connect number which is free if u got x-net minutes or home plans with UK calls ALL-IN....

even India between 8-10p aint bad from 3g mobiles & Europe is amazing! and it'll work from any mobile - even ones that cannot use the 07744 services

There are plenty of other similar operations, so it wouldn't quite be fair to go overboard on this as an innovation or best in class. It's effectively the same as a calling card arrangement and very similar to 1899/18185; only the credit method differs.

Perhaps for company use, a 1899 or 18185 account might be preferred as it is invoiced and call details are available. Even if the company bean-counters are unconcerned the tax people might wish to see that it was not used partly for private calls.

Even at home, this method uses minutes to an ordinary number (which may be free of course), whereas 18185 is charged separately on BT lines, as Heinz suggests above.

I notice they've partly corrected the Belgian mobiles I mentioned last week, but I wonder if I call Base or Simyo will they bill me at the KPN Orange rate. [Belgium has 3 GSM networks, not 5.]
  • totally agreed Redux...

I think companies using several mobiles to make foreign calls, including to foreign mobiles, could consider other options, even calling cards with fees if there is significant usage, or having O2 or Orange contracts and using callthrough numbers. Or possibly some interesting callthrough arrangements on the new T-mobile Flext tariff.
  • intersting post above redux -- except tried prepad cards &:
    1) the quality is normally totally crap 2) they normally have connection charges/ daily charges / expiry dates / per minute billing..

the https://www.cheapestchat.com one has none of the above & thjey damn good quality
