there is lots of hits on google regarding you problem http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=limited+service+imei&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a
if you feel like it, you could probably reload a fresh firmware, but I guess you're better off going to a shop... theyll probably charge you 10 quid or so ;)

    Thanks.

    Have had a look online..

Really worried now, that as my IMEI number has changed to a row of zeros, my local independent dealer might not touch it, as I read that it's illegal to change the IMEI number :(

    Gutted.

This is where you went wrong:

"I put the Orange sim (that came with the phone) into the Samsung handset..entered the unlock code..'EEPROM RESET" appeared, which I presume was resetting it to the factory settings. The screen flashes a couple of times, but then the Orange logo still comes up. "

E2prom reset only works on really old samsungs, on newer one's it causes the imei to be all zero's.

You need to take your phone to someone who know's what they are doing and have them re-write the e2prom with a service box or go to svc (samsung) service centre.

    Thanks James.

Just worried, that they won't reset the IMEI number, after reading a few sites, where it says it's illegal :o

    Must sleep.

Will try my local independent dealer first.

    Thanks again.

    Any pointers, regarding this guys?

    Thanks.
  • Just to be aware it IS illegal to change or tamper with a phone that changes the IMEI.

However with your code, place the O2 sim in almost completly and turn the phone on so it says 'insert sim' then gently puch the sim in all the way - it should still say 'insert sim' - now enter your code sequence....should work. I did it yesterday on a e390 and worked first time.

there is a massive difference in "changing the imei number" and "repairing the imei number back to the original".

if you took the phone to samsung service and they re-wrote the original factory set calibration settings back to the e2prom (which also contains the imei data) which will inturn reset the imei number back to the original, would they have committed a crime? there is your answer.

Dont you have to wait 3 months from using the phone before they will issue you with an unlocking code?

Just send it back to Samsung, and they will fix it if its still under warranty.
That won't solve your unlock problem, however.
