Ive been well pleased with my Dell desktop - first one Ive bought from them and the service has been great.0

I have disgruntled Dell customers to thank for most of my work, so I hope sales don't slide with the increase!0

They should have taken the 5 year warranty0

Oh come on wym, I know people with them much older. I paid over double for my multi award winning MESH puter and it was back at their workshops more often than on my desk. Even though I had 5 year warranty with it, I bunged it out after 2 years as I couldnt stand the aggro. Thats apart from the literally days waiting to get someone to answer the phone that end.0

Computer component parts are also going up and up. Most of them are made in the far east, and Sterling is getting pounded against these currencies, so the cost to import them into the UK has jumped by around 25%. The increased cost is just starting to feed into the retail outlets now.
Bye-bye deflation. It was nice knowing you.poppy100 -
As we've gone a bit off topic and are talking about reliability I would just like to say that I swear by Compaq stuff, or their desktop PCs at least. I've had my second-hand Compaq tower for like 15 years or something now and it's never let me down once. It's switched on 24/7/365 apart from the occasional reboot and probably isn't even a Pentium 1 in technology terms but it runs (and has run) XP, 2000 Pro, 98, 95 and 3.1(?) Windows like a dream with no blue screens of death ever.
One would expect something from a prehistoric era such as this PC is to keel over and die as soon as you give it something meaty to do but it's gets to work with stuff like the Adobe software (Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat Reader etc) with the minimum of fuss unlike many supposedly modern PCs I've used.
It would do me proud on the antiques road show :rotfl: .

I've been buying Dell machines both at work and for home, for about 16 years now. In my experience, they are the best value machines on the market.
I like Apple gear generally -- nicely designed, but way over-priced.."I don't mind if a chap talks rot. But I really must draw the line at utter rot." - PG Wodehouse0 -
When my Dell arrived (in four days) I realised Id not ordered speakers - doh - I rang them, the phone was answered in 5 rings, explained to them no speakers and they said as the person who took the order should have queried this at the time, please accept speakers gratis. Well, what a result. They arrived a few days later.0

My parents ordered a laptop a few weeks back from Dell...ordered on the Tuesday afternoon, it arrived on the Friday morning.
They are very happy with it compared to their ultra slow desktop they had (I did tell them not to go for that desktop but would they listen?)We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0
