Dell have put their prices up 10-15%

Options
Not that they had any sales in the first place - they seem to have different offers on all the time on different things.

They must be doing pretty well if they can up their prices like this. I just missed out...got a laptop but on the new prices (although I had to negotiate!).

Any other companies upping their prices in these times?

Are you sure about this... a source link would be good.

Seems ridiculous to me when they have to work in a market with fewer people with disposable money to spend.

Intel on Monday cut the prices of many of its mainstream processors, with some of the cuts lopping off as much as 48 percent.

$200 Laptops Break a Business Model

By BRAD STONE and ASHLEE VANCE
    Published: January 25, 2009

Mr. Title, a 35-year-old new-media manager at a film production company in New York, has dropped his cable subscription and moved to watching most of his television online — free. While shopping for a new laptop for his girlfriend recently, he sidestepped more expensive full-featured computers and picked a bare-bones, $200 Asus EeePC laptop, also known as a netbook.

“We’ve reached one of those moments in tech history when there are low-priced and free alternatives that are both user-friendly and reliable enough to make the switch,” Mr. Title said. “Then there’s the extra bonus of saving some cash.”

I checked with them when I ordered my laptop, however, I am also a partner with them and became aware of the rise too late. I've been advised of this by my accounts manager at Dell and by 5 different people who I emailed in order to try to get the best deal :rotfl:

I realise this will probably end up getting in the techie thread, but why doesn't clobber post reasons for his/her statements? I've bought 12 dell machines in the lat 18 months, and had trouble with only 1 of them, and with this being resolved I got a spare 500GB hard drive, I got a new motherboard and 2 free Dell Dell 968 AIO printers!

I've been a satisfied customer of Dell. They're a PITA about delivery but very good apart from that IME.

I'm sure Apple is very good but I don't want to pay multiples of the price of a Dell.

I drive a Honda although I'm sure that a Mercedes is excellent for much the same reasons.

Ditto the reason that I had a roast chicken salad sandwich for lunch made with leftovers rather than a three course meal at the local 'fine dining' restaurant.

Probably related to the item on the news this morning about electronic goods becoming more expensive due to the strength of the yen. Much of the price of Dell computers originates abroad and as you get less $ or Yen for your pound you will also get less computer. Dell is probably big enough to withstand it, but DSG group (i.e PC World and others) is going to get a double hit - already people aren't spending, and putting up prices isn't going to help that - the only other alternative is to cut margins and take the extra cost themselves but that won't help either.

Forgot to say this won't be just Dell but they are the first to show it as they build to order.

Over the next 3 months it will be across all electronic manufacurers as most manufacturers import finished goods instead, this means it takes longer for the increases to show.

E.G. HP usualy go up 4-6 weeks after Dell and down 4-6 weeks after if that makes sense.

Well bang goes my chances of getting a laptop! I have been hankering after one for, well years.

Still it was only a pipe dream.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

You get what you pay for + 20% mac tax.

Saying that, my macbook was bought of day on release. Still going strong and no need to upgrade, infact it's as good as new!
