triker and others who don't like sorting things out. I'm the same, I hate phoning official type places and put it off again and again. I've learned my lesson now though as after the debacle I had with my tax last year DH explained how none of it would've happened had i not just ignored everything. I am lucky having DH as he understands all this stuff but please don't make the same mistake I did, just do it

Saying that i've just phoned the tax office as DH reckons my tax coding notice is wrong but I can't get through, after 10 minutes of menus etc they're apparently too busy to speak to me!

Right, have checked work emails, sorted out a meeting for Thurs and I am about to head out via the charity shop where I'll drop off stuff. Sounds like the washer has almost finished though so i might just wait for that so it can be hung up.

Will also have a shufty att the bank charges thread too. I need some courage, I went to pieces re that tax credit form last night because I couldn't remember some key dates and to be frank the thought of getting embroiled in government agencies and getting things wrong terrifies me. I've been treated really badly by them in the past and get really wobbly about them.

Same with the banks, I don't have the tenacity/confidence to fight them off when they get heavy, I'm all for a stress free life :o But I'll give it a go.

Triker, you will be fine with the form. I am just looking at it now and you cannot do it wrong - the only one it seems that is a problem to you is question 4 - just check back to see when you were together (any time during 2001/02 or 2002/03 depending on which boxes you tick to claim for) and once you know this, the rest is straight forward, honest. Just send it off with your phone number on it and if they need to speak to you they will - they are not horrible, honest. Most of them are very helpful for a government office. Just take the plunge and go for it... we're right behind you...

OK, in my HHC I did...

  • I think that is the problem with telephoning official [laces. You get your head round it, phone them up, wait on hold for 10 minutes then get told sorry please try later.

Although I was impressed with the Car tax people as I had managed to lose my car tax form and I phone them up with my log book ref and they did it all automated and was all done. Now I just need to wait form car tax. Was so much easier than I expected.

I also managed to do my tax assessment at the weekend but seeing as my total amount was £270 (that wasn't to pay) that was what I earnt I didn't think I would get any problems......I hope.

It's the busiest time of day Rach - most offices for personal tax take calls from 8 to 8, try very early or later in the day when its usually much easier to get through. Also this week, being the tax return deadline, is much busier than usual.

And yes - there are humans at the other end !

Duh - too click happy and pressed send...

    And most importantly
    • Be nursemaid to DS – a bit better and less limpetlike – now just lap lurking and pale.

Although no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending.... life is a WIP.
