How long do the potatoes take to grow?

I found this gave me some idea of size/number potatos. (I don't have a morrisons to compare bucket size and our local B&Q does those flexiplanters in 12, 22 and 40 litre versions!!!). I'm not recommending the store below but it's advert is for a bag which holds 40 litres of compost and they say 3-5 potatos per bag ... hope this helps other peeps who, like me, don't have a clue where to start!

I'm not well up on these things  , would it be ok to drill holes around the edge on the outside, say about 2cm or so from ground level? I know you normally have holes at the bottom of plant pots etc but I won't be able to raise this off the ground because of the size.

    ;)
Not quite as good for drainage but should be ok as long as the spuds are planted above the height of the holes. i.e. so they do not remain water logged and rot.

When I was in "the range" today I saw a potato barrel that was made out of correx (the stuff estate agent boards are made out of) It wasn't cheap £20 odd iirc and I though I could easily make one or two as I can get correx very cheap from work.. so when I go into work tomorrow I'm going to cost it up

Found the thing I saw in The Range... http://store.whitehallgardencentre.co.uk/store/product/141741/Potato-Planter/

Looks like it says 5 seed potatoes in 90 litres of compost

Now I have an idea on Sizes I think I'll measure one up at work and cost it out

I got some rubble sacks from Poundland, I can't remember if it was 5 or 10 for £1.

Thanks for the info but after reading a few of the latest posts on here I may use the rubble sacks that I bought from Poundland instead. I can easily move those if I need to.

The rubble sacks are about the size of a carrier bag, would I get away with putting two potatoes in there or should I stick to one per bag?

how many potatoes would you put in the B&Q bucket shown earlier?

i would say two or three at the most for the BBQ bucket... but i always think that they do bertter with a bit more space in a bucket...

it might be worth trying a few buckets, and seeing if you have space for more tha one bucket...
