I'm not well up on these things  , would it be ok to drill holes around the edge on the outside, say about 2cm or so from ground level? I know you normally have holes at the bottom of plant pots etc but I won't be able to raise this off the ground because of the size.0 -
Does anyone use the flexible tubs that you can get at diy stores?

I got 4 of those in blue from My local tesco home store for £2 each last week went to get 4 more tonight and they (along with green ones) are back up to £2.98 still a saving on B&Q though
I'd also like to know what size - as in how deep do the pots need to be to get a decent crop?Hi
Do I take it you mean the black buckets that you can get from Morrisons?
If so, can you please tell me how many chitted potatoes do you put in each and how much compost?
Ta!
Also interested in the answer to this question... and in general how much space do potatoes need.
When I was in "the range" today I saw a potato barrel that was made out of correx (the stuff estate agent boards are made out of) It wasn't cheap £20 odd iirc and I though I could easily make one or two as I can get correx very cheap from work.. so when I go into work tomorrow I'm going to cost it upTrying to make a better life.... If you need me you'll find me at the allotment.0 -
Are the Tesco ones suitable for outdoor use?
I know that the B&Q ones are as they are in the builders section.0 -
I guess so... looks like the ones I've seen in B&Q I'll try and get a picture posted upTrying to make a better life.... If you need me you'll find me at the allotment.0

I'd like to know the answer to this too pleaseMy Dad is getting me some black buckets from Morrisons tomorrow and I was thinking of growing some spuds in them.
What kind of potatoes would be the best for a first timer to grow? I thought it sounded quite easy but then in my local garden centre there seemed to be LOADS of different types  anything easy will doEven if you stumble, you're still moving forward.0 -
Last year I used a few these and put 1 spud from ASDA in each and got a good crop in each. This year I plan to use a dozen with 1 spud from the local supermarket in each0

Did you mean the big buckets from Tesco or the flower buckets from Morrisons?
i have the morrisons buckets and plant one spund in each close to the bottom, or if you are using peeling than one section of sprouting peel per bucket...
