If you bought it in a shop I don't think you have any rights to an exchange or refund and it will depend on the store. They won't be able to resell it as new so may have to discount it to resell so could charge a restocking fee.
If you bought it online you would have the right to return it though.
After a day or two the 40" will look like a 32" anyway and you will both be wishing you'd bought a 46" !0 -
yup.. i upgraded from a 32" CRT to a 40" LCD back in November.. Looking at the stand i have, and the room, i really think i should have gone bigger..
it may take a week or so getting used to it, but you will.
comet charge a restocking fee for things that were bought in error, which is the category yours falls into. i don't doubt that other retailers will do the same

I'll take it off your hands if the shop won't give you a refundThrifty Till 50 Then Spend Till the End
You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time but you can never please all of the people all of the time0 -
Thanks for that guys, I think our problem is the room is a decent size but quite narrow... will give them a ring tomorro and see what they say..

you still bought it without thinking how big it would look in the room
i have my 40" in a small bedroom which is something like 10ft x 8ft, so if you said it was too big for the room, i'd instantly ask how big your room is and wouldn't refund it..
however, if you bought a tv smaller, which was more expensive, then by all means i'll offer you an exchange... as long as you pay the extra0 -
Its too big as in physically too big, or the picture quality is cr*p and therefore awful to watch?:idea:0

I think its just you needing to adjust to the size. How far back from the TV are you sitting?
When I got my 40in I moved up from 28in and it took me a few days to get used to the bigger picture. Now I could never go back to a 28in as they look tiny.
Another thing that helped was messing around with the picture settings as the standard settings had the backlight, brightness and contrast too high and that hurt everyone's eyes.
All sorted now and the picture looks great.0 -
You do get use to the size, at first my 40" bought in October 2007 looked big but now I wish I gone for one slightly bigger, before 40" we had a 26" LCD but that was for a smaller house at the time now we have a decent size living room0

The tv doesn't look too big but when the tv is on our eyes just cant adjust to the picture and my partner just physically cant watch it.
We're sat as far back as possible to the tv which is about 8ft away. It's on a unit at the moment- don't know if it would make any difference on a wall?I am a Travel Agent
