Will porting my number invalidate my cashback claims?

hi people...yet another question

bought a phone from mobilerainbow and ported my easyMobile number onto that new phone w/o going thru their website (ie I did on my own after I'd received the phone)

will doing so invalidate my cashback? i've tried emailing them 3days ago but to no avail; and I can't find a relevant clause in their T&Cs...any help's much appreciated! :money: THANX!

You may well have breached their terms and conditions. See the extract below:

"Want to switch over to a new network provider, but retain your old number?

Existing mobile number is always important for us and everyone of us want to retain the same even if we are moving to a different network provider with a new handset. This is possible and called “number porting”. Mobilerainbow makes this process as easy as possible. - You can transfer your existing number as long as you are changing to a different network provider. It doesn't matter whether you are currently using a PAYG or a "contract" phone. If you are using a contract, you must be out of your minimum contract term, only then you can request for PAC "Porting Authorisation Code" from your current network provider (this is normally made up of 3 letters and 6 numbers). There may be an "administration charge" from your current Network Provider.

If you wish to retain an existing number this MUST be stated on your order form.

Every network has its own policies regarding number ports. Orange, Three and T-Mobile are able to port your existing number even after the receipt of your new mobile phone.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to call us on 0845 009 1144 and we will be able to answer any questions you may have. "
  • hiya steve, thanks for replying! excuse my ignorance, but i don't see which term/condition i'm flouting? thanx very much!

Depending on the network and when you bought this, you may still be within the 14 day cooling off period and have the opportunity to return the phone. That said, if the number has already been ported over, there may be nothing you can do.

Skiptomylou - what did they say? I ordered a 3 phone from them on saturday and before ordering I phoned them to advise them that I wanted to port my old T-mobile number but that since it didn't run out till March I'd only want to port it then. They said that that would be ok and I could phone Three directly when I am ready to port it. But I didn't state anything about porting on the application form, nor did I ask the guy who phoned me yesterday to confirm - as it was quite difficult to make out what he was saying anyway......(did you have that problem....??)

So I'm curious to see what they said.

Also - still waiting for my phone which hopefully will arrive tomorrow. Having not heard of these guys before I'm hoping that this gamble will pay off.

Sometimes in these instances it is better to leave the old phone on the old network, just converting it to PAYG. Then, when you get the new phone and number, you leave a message on the answerphone of your old phone , informing callers that your new number is..............

I ported my orange number last year by myself 2 weeks after purchasing from e2save.

It had no effect on the cashack and I got it without problems.

Not sure about other retailers though.

I know that e2save won't let you port your numebr to a cashback deal contract as my o/h tried, but I ordered a phone from mobileshop a few days ago and it gave me the option to do so on the online order form (for a fee of course)

I think it varies depending on the retailer and network - probably best to phone and ask.

You can port a number with e2save, and with a cashback deal. I have done so. Here is a quote from their FAQ's:

    Porting Queries
How do I port my number?

You can port your number to your new connection as long as you are changing networks. Please click on the following procedure for further information:
How do I port my number to T-Mobile?
How do I port my number to Orange?
How do I port my number to 3?
How do I port my number to BT Mobile?
How do I port my number to Virgin Mobile?
How do I port my number to O2 or Vodafone?
How do I port my number to T-Mobile?
If you require your existing mobile number to be ported onto your new contract, simply contact your existing supplier to obtain your PAC code. Then order your handset as normal from ourselves which will be connected with a 'temporary number' on T-Mobile. Upon receipt, you must contact T-Mobile directly (number given below) quoting your 'temporary number' along with the number you wish to port across (your existing number) and your PAC code.

    T-Mobile - 0870 606 0139

Your existing number will then be transferred within 5 to 7 working days.
How do I port my number to Orange?
If you require your existing mobile number to be ported onto your new contract, simply contact your existing supplier to obtain your PAC code. Then order your handset as normal from ourselves which will be connected with a 'temporary number' on Orange. Upon receipt, you must contact Orange directly (number given below) quoting your 'temporary number' along with the number you wish to port across (your existing number) and your PAC code.

    Orange - 0800 376 2285

Your existing number will then be transferred within 5 to 7 working days.
How do I port my number to 3?
If you require your existing mobile number to be ported onto your new contract, simply contact your existing supplier to obtain your PAC code. Then order your handset as normal from ourselves which will be connected with a 'temporary number' on 3. Upon receipt, you must contact 3 directly (number given below) quoting your 'temporary number' along with the number you wish to port across (your existing number) and your PAC code.

    3 - 08707 330 333

Your existing number will then be transferred within 5 to 7 working days.
When porting to 3 please note the following: Once the transfer has taken place your ported number will function as your voice-calling number and your temporary number will function as the video-calling number. To receive Video calls you will need to provide your temporary 3 number to people wishing to call you as Video Calling will not work via your 'ported/transferred' existing number.
How do I port my number to BT Mobile?
If you require your existing mobile number to be ported onto your new contract, simply contact your existing supplier to obtain your PAC code. Then order your handset as normal from ourselves which will be connected with a 'temporary number' on BT Mobile. Upon receipt, you must contact BT Mobile directly (number given below) quoting your 'temporary number' along with the number you wish to port across (your existing number) and your PAC code.

    BT Mobile - 08000 322 111

Your existing number will then be transferred within 5 to 7 working days.
How do I port my number to Virgin Mobile?
If you require your existing mobile number to be ported onto your new contract, simply contact your existing supplier to obtain your PAC code. Then order your handset as normal from ourselves which will be connected with a 'temporary number' on Virgin Mobile. Upon receipt, you must contact Virgin Mobile directly (number given below) quoting your 'temporary number' along with the number you wish to port across (your existing number) and your PAC code.

    Virgin Mobile - 0845 6000 789

Your existing number will then be transferred within 5 to 7 working days.
How do I port my number to O2 or Vodafone?
If you require your existing mobile number to be ported onto your new contract, you must inform us at point of purchase stating your existing number and PAC code (this can be obtained from your current network provider). We will despatch your new mobile & SIM as normal along with starting the porting process. Your existing number will then be ported and made 'Live' on your new SIM in approximately 7 to 10 working days of receipt of your new mobile.

PLEASE NOTE - Please be aware that because your mobile number has to be released from your current network before it can be connected to your new network, you may be without service for up to 1 day. Additional services such as voicemail and text messaging may also take up to 2 days to be enabled once your number has been transferred. You are able to continue using your existing mobile/SIM until the number is ported.

If you are porting from O2 Direct to O2 CPWS then it is likely that your port will activate on your original SIM Card. For this reason please do not discard your original SIM Card.
Due to the complexities and the reliance on your current & new network chosen, e2save.com can not accept any responsibility for failed / delayed number transfers.

    2. Can I port from pay as you go to pay monthly?
If you are planning to port from one network to another then we can process a port for you. For information on how to do this please read the answer to Question 1 above.

If you want to continue on your existing network and transfer your number to pay monthly (e.g. port from Virgin Mobile pay as you go to Virgin Mobile pay monthly) then, at present, we cannot process these ports for you. To be able to process a port you must be moving from one network to another.
