ryoooh wrote:i wasn't rude at all, greenfingers called me a viper just because i couldn't understand the point of putting all the £2 coins into a tin instead of a bank account! he is a silly boy. I can see on your sig, Callisto, that you are being very wise with your £2 and actually investing them to work hard for you...This is what i was originally trying to encourage Kimberley to see, saving money in a big tin in a cupboard for months on end is not good or efficient MS style and it should be avoided at all costs (and not actively encouraged as she was doing to another member)! I never disagreed with the £2 coin savers club, i was just concerned that when people are focussed too much on building up a huge store of coins they are missing the larger point of saving on paying interest or failing to earn interest by investing/paying off credit cards. Little and often is a much easier way to pay off debt, not in a lump sum that you have easy access to and may be tempted to dip into regularly anyway. Am i wrong?
Saving coins in this way is an incentive for people to do, for those who have no bank accounts or those who feel good after having the will power to save large amounts of coins without dipping into them. If you find one £2 coin in your change your not going to rush to the bank and bank it are you? You will spend it on something you don't need, BUT if you put that £2 coin in a tin and watch that tin fill up, you will feel so happy and proud with yourself.
Also since i started doing it, so have my kids, so not only are we saving but we are teaching kids it's good and rewarding to save. Also kids learn that money is not to be wasted but respected.
It's such a good feeling to know i am paying my debts off with such a small precious piece of metal0 -
Having gone for days without the sniff of a £2 coin, DH swapped 2 x £1 coins with me for one yesterday and today, I got one in change from the Post Office and another one in change from the Farm Shop!! Woohoo!!:hello: I'm very well, considering the state I'm in. :hello:Weight loss since 2 March 10 : 13lbs0

Uh oh...am becoming obsessed with £2 coins...I actually asked my colleagues at the office if anyone had any they would like to trade with me for two £1 coins. Am I a nerd, or what?Debt-free in May 2015 with the help of Payplan and MSELightbulb Moment: November 22, 2004 :idea:0

Gone for days with not a sniff of a £2 coin, but finally got one in my change in Asda tonight! £6 now. And I have now got a container for them. Hubby got one of those tin cans you have to open with tin opener as a gift at christmas, and he did'nt want to use it as could not get the money out! Perfect way of making sure I don't dip into it until I actually need it!0

 Arghhh! I had 2 coins in the back of my purse to add to my pot, then DS wanted to borrow a couple of quid and it was all the money I had today at work when I needed less than a pound! Oh well in the words of Scarlett O'Hara "tomorrow is another day" I shall have to move more quickly to get the b*****S 'potted up';)
In response to some comments, I love having my own little 'stooze-pot' where I can squirrel away my 'precious'. Call me nuts if you want.
Anyway after reading others aims I have decided that when I have reached £150 or so I will cash some in as premium bonds and repeat the excercise so I always have a small 'cash cash'and the rest taking a gamble for me!

hmmm, I have found a problem with not actually spending any cash... I don't get any cash in change! Between bus passes/oyster and cards I don't tend to hand over cash and get any cash back.... hmmm gonna have to work on that one. Did give dh money for lunch out today (got back at 1am, back out at 7am figured he needed a proper cooked lunch) wonder if he got any £2 coins in his change? Otherwise I might have to rethink my spending habits - seems silly to go and buy something in the hope I get a £2 coin in my change! <G>0

Callisto wrote:Ryoooh,
Why does it seem to be bothering you so much whether people keep their money in a tin or whether they put it in the bank?
Because there is tendency of this thread to encourage people to horde their coins, i am merely presenting a more logical and successful method...Stick it in yer bank !! and for saying this method i was harshly criticised. People reading this thread should be allowed to see differing methods/opinions. Arrogant idiot.
and as for.....Kimberley wrote:It's such a good feeling to know i am paying my debts off with such a small precious piece of metal
