Can you take email address with you?

Just been contacted by BT who have upped the speeds in our exchange they say and want to offer us a deal to use them as our provider.
Guy says I can take my current email address (Tiscali) with me to BT.
Surely if I cancel my account with Tiscali then they will close my email address down, which I dont want to happen.

Are BT telling the truth?

Tell Tiscalli BT are offering you WBC, and ask them if you can be upgraded to WBC/ADSL2+, or LLU/ADSL2+ if you are on an unbundled line. You might squeeze a retention deal from them too (reduced price for a few months etc).

I have a tiscali email address and I dont use tiscali any more.

I just log into the tiscali homepage to get my mail, been working for 4 years so far.
“Careful. We don't want to learn from this.”

Did you get your Tiscali Email address with broadband? If it was, then I think the email address will expire once you leave. If it is from dial-up, then it should work fine.

Haven't a clue what you are talking about  but if you think it will work then I will write it all down and mention it when I phone for my MAC code.

I was on dial-up with a different email address but when I changed to broadband then they gave me a new email address.
Do you think BT are spinning a yarn here:rolleyes:

Wow I wrote crap, sorry, forgot where I was.

Just tell them BT have offered you a faster (cheaper) line, would they like to offer you anything else before giving you your MAC.

Dunno about Tiscali email, but FWIW, if it were the other way round (ie. if you were leaving BT broadband for a new ISP) you would be able to keep the email by paying £15 a year for it or by making a 30 second dial-in call to a national rate number once every 3 months. Worth checking the facts with Tiscali, for sure.

Yes, will give Tiscali a call tomorrow, see what they say.

The dial-up email address should work even now (try webmail), but the broadband one would disappear once you leave.

Just to add, my Tiscali address from dialup days still works, use it for sign ups etc i.e.can afford to lose it.

The best solution is to get a Googlemail address, no worries when (if) moving provider.
Set up one for personal use and one for business, takes all of 5 minutes.

    Move along, nothing to see.
